Technical Product Lead - MLOps

Technical Product Lead - MLOps Platform

6-month contract | £650/day INSIDE IR35 | Remote (occasional London travel)

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Technical Product Lead to help shape and mature a growing machine learning platform capability. This role is focused on moving beyond short-term delivery into a well-structured, scalable MLOps environment that can be leveraged across the wider organisation.

Sitting between product, engineering, and architecture, you will play a key role in driving technical direction, ensuring consistency across teams, and embedding a long-term platform approach.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Take ownership of the MLOps capability, guiding its development into a robust, enterprise-grade platform
  • Define the strategic direction, standards, and operating model for how MLOps is delivered across the business
  • Design and promote reusable components and frameworks, including:
    • Environment/workspace structures
    • Pipeline templates and orchestration patterns
    • Deployment approaches
    • Governance and control mechanisms
  • Act as a central design authority, providing oversight and direction across multiple delivery teams
  • Ensure alignment across programmes, avoiding fragmented or inconsistent solutions
  • Work closely with engineers, platform teams, and stakeholders to guide technical decision-making
  • Translate business needs into scalable and reusable platform capabilities
  • Embed governance principles directly into platform design rather than relying on post-delivery controls
  • Drive best practice around maintainability, scalability, and reduction of technical debt
  • Influence key decisions relating to deployment models, integrations, and platform controls
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience leading MLOps or machine learning platform initiatives at an enterprise level
  • Strong background in defining platform strategies, standards, and operating models
  • Solid understanding of the ML lifecycle, including deployment, monitoring, and governance
  • Experience working within modern cloud-based data and ML environments
  • A background that spans product, architecture, and engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to design reusable frameworks and scalable platform patterns
  • Experience working in complex environments with multiple parallel delivery streams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience operating in a design authority or governance-focused role
Nice to Have
  • Experience working in regulated or highly governed environments
  • Familiarity with modern engineering practices such as:
    • Infrastructure as Code
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • DevOps approaches
    • Cloud-native platform architectures
  • Exposure to large-scale transformation programmes
Key Competencies
  • MLOps & Machine Learning Platforms
  • Enterprise Architecture & Platform Design
  • Technical Product Ownership
  • Governance & Design Authority
  • DevOps / CI/CD
  • Stakeholder Management
