The Role

The boxoffice Company is looking for a new Engineering Manager to look after our Ticketing and Integrations operations. As our new EM, you will lead a multi-disciplinary organization of 12 people spread across Canada and Europe.

You aren't here to write code; you are here to build the environment where engineers do their best work. You will partner closely with our Tech Lead (who owns the architectural vision) and our Support Lead (who owns L2 operations) to create a seamless bridge between building features and maintaining a world-class platform.

Key Responsibilities
1. People & Culture
  • Direct Management: Lead a team of 8 Developers and 1 DevOps Engineer. Conduct high-impact 1:1s focused on growth, mental health, and performance.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Act as a coach for coaches, supporting the Support Lead in their management journey and helping the Tech Lead navigate team dynamics.
  • Hiring & Onboarding: Own the end-to-end talent strategy, from defining roles to ensuring new hires have a perfect first week.
  • Distributed Leadership: We are a remote-first, transatlantic team. Our engineering talent is spread across Canada and Europe . You will be responsible for bridging the 6+ hour time gap, ensuring that communication is seamless and that no one feels like they are working in a secondary timezone.
2. Delivery & Process
  • Strategic Roadmap: Work with Product Managers to turn ambitious goals into executable sprints. You manage the velocity vs. quality trade-off.
  • Agile Evolution: Audit and improve our current ceremonies (Stand-ups, Retros, Demos) to ensure they stay effective as the team grows.
  • Stakeholder Management: Be the "voice of engineering" in business meetings, translating technical complexity into clear business risks and opportunities.
3. Operational Excellence
  • Support Oversight: Ensure the L2 Support team has the tooling and dev-resources they need to hit SLAs.
  • Incident Management: Act as the point of escalation for major production issues and coordinate post-mortem reviews to ensure we don't trip over the same stone twice.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure the team maintains its PCI-compliance milestones and stays ahead of automated security audits.
About You
  • You have 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams. You’ve moved past the need to code and now find satisfaction in unblocking others.
  • You have a background in software development and are familiar with Azure and API integrations. You can hold your own in a design review with a Senior Architect.
  • You are equally comfortable talking to a frustrated client, a CEO, and a DevOps engineer.
  • You don't shy away from "radical candor" and can deliver tough feedback in a way that motivates people to improve.
