This position involves autonomy in contributing to architectural decisions and engineering standards, with a key focus on Power BI implementation, DAX development, and dashboard optimisation. It suits someone capable of owning data engineering and reporting workstreams, mentoring junior staff, and aligning technical output with strategic business goals.
Your Responsibilities
· Design, develop, and maintain production-grade data pipelines that support Power BI dashboards and reporting models.
· Implement secure, efficient, and automated data flows to feed Power BI from various structured and unstructured sources.
· Develop and optimise Power BI datasets, dataflows, dashboards, and paginated reports to deliver actionable insights.
· Lead robust data integration solutions (ETL/ELT) across both batch and streaming contexts using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Dataflows.
· Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data models and Power BI visualisations.
· Implement performance tuning and optimisation for DAX measures and Power BI models.
· Work closely with platform engineers and architects on solution design for analytics environments including Power BI workspaces and governance.
· Maintain version-controlled and well-documented Power BI assets aligned to enterprise development practices.
· Contribute to Power BI governance practices (e.g., certified datasets, role-based access, workspace strategy).
About You
· Experience in data engineering or backend development with strong exposure to Power BI.
· Proven hands-on experience developing and deploying Power BI reports, dashboards, and DAX measures.
· Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational and analytical databases.
· Familiarity with Power Query (M) language and advanced transformations.
· Strong programming skills in Python.
· Exposure to orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Dataform) and integration with Power BI.
· Experience with Azure-based data services (Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory) and their integration with Power BI.
· Knowledge of data modelling techniques including star/snowflake schema design for BI solutions.
· Understanding of DevOps/DataOps principles as applied to Power BI CI/CD and workspace automation.
