Project Controller Manager

The Consultancy Group are working with a Global Consulting business on a Project Controlling Manager opening.

The UK Project Controlling Manager is responsible for ensuring financial performance, governance, and data integrity across the UK group’s engineering and IT work packages and fixed-price projects.

Operating within a dual-system environment — combining ERP financial data and operational project reporting tools — the role ensures reconciliation between systems, maintains data accuracy, and drives process automation.

The position leads a small international team of Project Controllers and acts as a key business partner to Technical Leadership, Division Directors, and Finance.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor and analyse project KPIs including margin, revenue consumption, WIP, and backlog.
  • Deliver ad-hoc performance insights to Technical Leadership and UK Management.
  • Produce monthly project and portfolio performance reviews for UK Leadership and the Alten Group.
  • Ensure forecasts are aligned with realistic delivery plans, resource assumptions, and subcontractor utilisation.
  • Develop and automate reporting and forecasting tools using Power BI, Power Query, Python, SQL, or equivalent.
  • Own the semester target-setting process underpinning the performance management framework.
  • Enhance system interfaces and drive the digitisation of project controlling processes.
  • Support group-wide initiatives in data governance, process harmonisation, system upgrades, and automation.

Cost Control & Profitability Management

  • Monitor labour costs, resource deployment, subcontractor spend, and procurement against budget.
  • Analyse margin erosion drivers including scope variation, delivery inefficiencies, and rate card compliance.
  • Identify risks and recommend corrective actions in partnership with Project Managers.

Revenue Recognition, Compliance & Data Integrity

  • Apply IFRS 15 principles to long-term engineering and IT projects.
  • Validate WIP, accruals, deferrals, and revenue recognition entries within the ERP system.
  • Coordinate with Financial Controlling and support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency between ERP data and operational project systems.
  • Oversee accurate project setup across financial and operational platforms.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop a team of two UK-based Project Controllers and one Junior Controller in Porto.
  • Manage workload planning, priorities, and delivery timelines.
  • Strengthen team capabilities in financial analysis, data management, BI tools, and project governance.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement.
