IT Support Engineer – Linux Focused

Salary: £30–35k DOE

Location: Central London – Hybrid/Onsite flexibility

An opportunity to join a high-impact support and infrastructure team working across HPC, cloud, and end-user environments powering cutting-edge AI/ML systems.

The Role:

My client is looking for an IT Support Engineer to join their fast-paced, service-driven technical team. This person will support key infrastructure used in AI and machine learning workflows, covering both end-user and backend systems. Strong Linux experience is essential .

Responsibilities:

  • Providing service desk support across HPC and end-user systems
  • Troubleshooting scheduled tasks, automation failures, and OS-level issues (with a focus on Linux)
  • Managing service requests, triaging incidents, and escalating when needed
  • Leading onboarding/offboarding processes for user accounts and access
  • Administering Microsoft 365, Azure AD/Entra ID, Intune, and Teams
  • Supporting infrastructure operations, updates, patching, and maintenance
  • Installing and configuring Linux systems, managing packages and users, and handling backups
  • Contributing to IT projects, device provisioning, and technical documentation

Tech Environment:

The team works across a diverse stack including:

Linux (essential) , Windows, MacOS, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, Teams (incl. voice), NICE DCV, Slurm, CUDA, Jira Service Desk, Terraform, SiteGround, Confluence, and more.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 2+ years’ experience in IT support or service desk environments
  • Strong hands-on Linux experience (e.g. RHEL, Ubuntu) – installation, admin, troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with HPC workflows and virtual desktop solutions
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, and endpoint management tools
  • Solid communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Comfortable writing clear documentation and following support best practices

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Slurm, CUDA, NICE/Amazon DCV, or Citrix
  • Infrastructure automation or scripting (e.g. Bash, PowerShell, Terraform)
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Familiarity with tools like SCCM, MECM, ServiceNow, or Jira
