Digital Systems Manager

Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) is embarking on a major digital transformation through the implementation of the awardwinning Nervecentre Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system. This transition represents a significant step change in how clinical information is captured, accessed and used across the Trust.

MYTT has an established Digital Systems Team responsible for the management, maintenance, development and operational stability of the Trusts major clinical digital systems. The Digital Systems Manager is a key member of this team and will play a pivotal role in the transition from their portfolio of legacy systems to the new EPR.

Working Trustwide, the post holder provides specialist technical leadership, second line system support and expert advice to clinical and nonclinical users, ensuring systems are safe, reliable, compliant and aligned with the Trusts Digital Strategy.

The role involves close collaboration with Digital Services colleagues, system suppliers, clinicians and operational teams, and includes staff management responsibilities, participation in system upgrades and developments, and support for a 24/7 clinical service environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage the daytoday operation, configuration and maintenance of clinical digital systems, for example: SystmOne, Electronic Prescribing, Cancer Information Systems, PAS.
  • Provide secondline application and technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex issues and coordinating fixes with suppliers.
  • Lead and contribute to system upgrades, developments and new implementations, including requirements gathering, testing, golive support and postimplementation review.
  • Act as the primary contact for system suppliers, managing contracts, fault prioritisation and service delivery.
  • Design and coordinate technical and user testing, ensuring changes are safe and fit for purpose before release.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, configuration records, SOPs and data flow documentation.
  • Ensure systems comply with Information Governance, data security policies and NHS standards.
  • Participate in and lead data quality improvement initiatives.
  • Line manage Digital Systems Administrators/Officers, supporting performance, development and mandatory training compliance.
  • Provide expert advice, training coordination and guidance to system users across the Trust.
  • Work flexibly across Trust sites and, where required, outside core hours to support service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or able to demonstrate equivalent level of experience

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in the NHS
  • Previous experience of managing staff
  • Extensive experience of setting up and configuring clinical systems and associated functionality
  • Significant knowledge of working practices/areas where clinical systems are used
  • Working with suppliers
  • Defining user requirements and interpreting them to system suppliers
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge and Awareness:

  • An excellent knowledge of confidentiality and data security
  • Highly computer literate
  • Awareness of own limitations
