About the role

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to advertise a Trust Registrar role aimed at doctors who are passionate about their practice and their career but who want to take time out to develop a special interest. This post will be offered fixed term until April 2027 to cover a maternity leave. These jobs would also suit doctors who just want to take time out to develop new skills and enhance their CVs. Our posts combine the equivalent of 2 days per fortnight dedicated to your chosen special interest as well as education and career development with practical patient-facing care. We have a proven track record having first run these posts in 2013; this year sees an expansion in the number and types of Trust Registrar roles we can offer.

We are able to support our Trust Registrars in developing a special interest in the following areas:

• Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine in partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service • Paediatric Emergency Medicine • Medical Education • Emergency Medicine Ultra-Sound • Sports and exercise medicine • Medical management and leadership • Research Fellow • Specialist interest in IT, Information Governance and EPR

These posts are not recognised UK training posts. Nevertheless, MYDoc doctors will have a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities to consolidate and develop.

Main duties

The main duties of the post will include:

• Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients presenting to the ED. • Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate • Dedicated special interest day per week • Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings • Involvement in relevant administration duties • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate • Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities

Essential person specification requirements

To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
• Medical Degree from recognised medical school
• MB BS (or equivalent)
• Full MRCEM examination ATLS/ALS/APLS in date qualification
• IAC in anaesthetics or equivalent evidence of airway skills
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• 4 years + experience in Emergency Medicine / related specialties
• Proven track record of hospital medicine in the NHS, with experience in EM. Short term locums & clinical attachments are not acceptable and will not be considered for this role.
• This is ONLY suitable as a first UK post IF the candidate has worked for a minimum of 36 months in Emergency Medicine fulltime.
• Candidates will not be shortlisted unless they fulfil the essential Educational criteria above.
• Any EM trainees from recognised overseas training programmes will be considered for shortlisting whether they have yet worked in the UK or not.
• Evidence of experience in performing procedures relevant to emergency medicine: venous cannulation, phlebotomy, fracture manipulation
• Evidence of keeping up to date with topics relevant to EM practice courses/teaching sessions attended
• Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving
• Possesses good communication skills
