Senior FDP Engineer

Job summary

The Senior FDP Engineer is an important role as the Trust leads up to and delivers the Electronic Patient Record implementation.

The Trust is using the FDP (Federated Data Platform) to drive important initiatives such as RTT (Referral To Treatment) and Discharge Management.

The Trust is also using FDP to drive national returns such as Inpatient CDS, Outpatient CDS and ECDS.

These projects have led to Mid Yorks being a leader in FDP implementation in England and as such the canonical data model is well populated.

This post is part of a team who are charged with the continued exploitation of FDP technologies and the assurance of FDP operations during EPR implementation.

The Senior FDP Engineer should be:

  • Experienced in foundry engineering, particularly pipeline builder.
  • Comfortable with the canonical data model and have experience populating it.
  • Have solid data warehousing methodology understanding & experience.
  • Have have experience working as part of an engineering/development team and be comfortable with devops principles.

Main duties of the job

The Senior FDP Engineer's main duties will be to:

  • Build & Maintain Pre-EPR Data Flows Into FDP To Satisfy Requirements For Central Returns, National & Local Products.
  • Design, Remap, And Rebuild EPR Data Flows Into FDP To Satisfy Requirements For Central Returns, National & Local Products.
  • Adhere & Contribute To FDP Development Best Practice, Including Testing, Peer Review etc.
  • Maintain FDP Product Stability Throughout EPR Implementation.
  • Help The Trust Exploit FDP Tools For Strategic Advantage.
  • Support The Interconnectivity Between FDP & The Wider Data Estate.
  • Maintain FDP Knowledge, Awareness & Skills.
  • Help Upskill Others in FDP Development.

Essential person specification requirements

Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualification or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of experience

Experience:

  • Experienced in the design, development, testing and maintenance of complex technical Data Warehouse solutions
  • Experienced in development across the Federated Data Platform at an expert level
  • Experience of design, development, testing, deployment, reverse engineering and documentation of complex extract, transform and load (ETL) processes
  • Experienced in the design, documentation & development of data models
  • Experience of debugging & problem solving of complex technical issues under time pressure
  • Experience of creating & applying repeatable testing plans to assure quality of developments
  • Experience of building advanced reporting solutions
  • Experience of working to and meeting deadlines
  • Experienced translator of non-technical, colloquial requirements into formal technical specifications
  • Experienced in the complexities of working within a technical team
  • Experience of teaching & mentorship
  • Previous experience of working within an information related department

Knowledge and Awareness:

  • Solid knowledge of data warehousing, particularly within an NHS setting
  • Deep knowledge & understanding of the FDP toolset & alternative methods of development
  • An awareness of the levels of normalisation and its use-cases
  • Knowledge & awareness of Data Flow Diagrams and an appreciation for their importance
  • Knowledge of the relationships within datasets and the use of Entity Relationship Diagrams to describe these
  • Knowledge & awareness of different types of data models and how these can be implemented
  • Knowledge of NHS information standards and guidance
  • Knowledge of NHS data manual and definitions. NHS reporting standards and requirements
  • Understanding of Data Protection and Caldicott Security and Confidentiality, Data Protection Act
