Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our successful Project Delivery team within the Digital and Technology Services [DATS] Directorate.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager who will be depended upon to deliver the overall management and optimal delivery of multiple digital projects. They will be responsible for the full project life cycle with a significant focus on change management and service modernisation.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and driven to see projects through to completion with a desire to deliver high standards. A solid understanding of managing technology projects in a large organisation is essential to fulfil the role.

In this role, you will be joining a successful delivery team, working on a variety of challenging and innovative projects that focus on improving patient care and delivering efficiencies throughout the Trust. The role will report to a Senior Project Manager and will work closely with a range of stakeholders.

The Project Manager role is key to the success of the DATS delivery programme and is accountable for the coordination, implementation and control of assigned projects. The role will matrix-manage their project teams to ensure projects are delivered to the agreed quality expectations, on time and within budget.

We are looking for a well-organised, highly innovative candidate with excellent communication skills and a desire to deliver fast-paced change.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the planning and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Raise clear and well-defined work packages for delivery teams.
  • Identify project risks / issues and determine mitigation or contingency plans.
  • Identify and manage project benefits.
  • Ensure project completion, acceptance and handover criteria have been met.
  • Capture and share lessons learned from project delivery.
  • Effectively manage allocated budgets, affiliated procurement exercises, and third-party suppliers.
  • Communicate project progress to senior stakeholders across the Trust.
  • Ensure that change management and communication of change is effectively delivered.

Job responsibilities

The chosen candidate must demonstrate experience in;

  • Effective management of projects within time, cost and quality parameters
  • Managing projects with an end-to-end view of project priorities and direction
  • Developing a pipeline of work, managing project priorities, financial tracking and reporting
  • Effective communication with the ability to interact well with colleagues, business groups and external vendors
  • Active leadership in areas of quality control, working practices, continuous improvement and coordinating project inter-dependencies
  • Managing procurement and contract negotiations
  • Direct and effective management of projects as required within time, cost and quality parameters.
  • Contribute towards the delivery of the IT Services Programme/Project portfolio and co-ordinate project inter-dependencies.
  • To make a significant contribution to the aspects of the IT Services strategy, which enables the Trust to meet its business goals and to achieve statutory and business reporting requirements.
  • To ensure the timely and accurate production of programme status reports for senior management.
  • Development and delivery of a comprehensive portfolio of work comprising of programmes, projects, technical requests and feasibility studies.
  • Client interaction, including developing a pipeline of work from the client, managing programmes/project priorities with the client, financial tracking and reporting, and project tracking and reporting
  • Cross-activity relationship management.
  • The position will involve a considerable amount of interaction with colleagues, business groups, IT and external vendors.
  • To make a considerable contribution to the ongoing development of the Trusts IT Change Framework (structure, processes and controls).
  • Promoting the value of the Change Framework within the change community, and driving improvements based on experience gathered from business partners.
  • Maturing those disciplines across the organisation ensuring deliverance of aprofessional, high quality service.
  • Contributing and developing the Trust Wide Programme Management Operating Plan, maintaining alignment to NHS direction and policy.
  • Managing effective interfaces in order to maintain an end-to-end view of programme priorities and direction.
  • Feeds into and updates a register of portfolio risks and issues, including mitigation plans. Ensuring that these are escalated and acted upon effectively.
  • Experience of managing stakeholders and debate, up to Director level.

Person Specification

KNOWLEDGE

Essential
  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent level of qualification or experience e.g. IT, Business, Health or have substantial experience in a relevant post

SKILLS

Essential
  • Have experience of managing a team, ideally management of project or service support teams
  • Have experience of delivering change management technology
  • Have experience of analysing and forecasting staff and budgets
  • Have experience of inter-agency working involving multiple and diverse partners
  • Have experience of supporting executive level Project Boards
  • Be competent with the Microsoft Office Suite

EXPERIENCE

Essential
  • Have experience of managing multiple complex projects
  • Have a good understanding of Trust policies and procedures
Desirable
  • Experience of managing projects in other organisations of similar size and complexity within or outside of the NHS

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential
  • Hold a current recognised project management qualification, preferably PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent experience in project management techniques
