Infrastructure Engineer

IT Infrastructure Engineer

£50k (12 Month FTC)

Cambridge (3 days per week onsite)

This is a great opportunity to join an established IT team supporting a broad technical environment across the UK. You’ll be the go-to person for keeping key systems running smoothly, from servers and storage to backups and patching, while helping to introduce new tools and technologies along the way.

You’ll work as part of a collaborative infrastructure team that manages the day-to-day health and performance of core IT services. It’s a hands-on role with plenty of variety, balancing BAU tasks with small projects, upgrades, and service improvements across a busy, mixed estate.

It’s a great opportunity to broaden your technical exposure across servers, storage, virtualisation, and security in a supportive environment that encourages ownership and innovation. Although on an initial 12 month contract basis, there is potential for this role to go permanent in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update physical and virtual server environments
  • Carry out patching, performance checks, and system monitoring
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in collaboration with other IT teams
  • Keep technical documentation current and share knowledge with colleagues
  • Contribute ideas to improve reliability, security, and automation

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Strong background in server administration (Windows preferred)
  • Experience supporting virtualised environments (VMware or Hyper-V)
  • Confident with patching, updates, and vulnerability management
  • Familiar with Group Policy, Active Directory, and IAM
  • Understanding of backup tools and recovery processes
  • Eligible for SC Clearance (Have been in the UK for a Minimum of 5 years and full right to work without restrictions)

Why This Role?

  • You’ll work across a varied and modern tech stack (no narrow specialism here)
  • You’ll be part of a tight-knit, experienced team that genuinely supports each other
  • You’ll have real influence in improving systems and processes, not just maintaining them
  • Hybrid working

You would be required to work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week. For more information and a full job description, please contact Andy Clarke at The One Group.
