A well-funded, research-led technology start-up is seeking a Mid–Senior Front-End Developer to join its growing team in Cambridge.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll take ownership of front-end development, working closely with engineers and researchers to translate complex systems into intuitive, production-ready user experiences.

The Role

As a Front-End Developer, you will lead the design and development of modern web applications - taking products from early-stage prototypes through to full production deployment.

You’ll work in a highly technical, fast-paced environment, collaborating with backend engineers and research teams to build interfaces for sophisticated AI-driven systems.

While this role will evolve into leading a small front-end function, it remains hands-on and development-focused.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining modern front-end applications using React or Angular.
  • Taking ownership of projects from prototype through to production deployment.
  • Translating complex technical workflows into clean, user-friendly interfaces.
  • Ensuring performance, scalability, and maintainability of front-end systems.
  • Contributing to architectural decisions across the wider platform.
  • Mentoring and supporting other front-end developers as the team grows.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years’ commercial experience in front-end development.
  • Strong experience with React or Angular (experience with both is advantageous).
  • Proven ability to own and deliver front-end projects end-to-end.
  • Solid understanding of modern front-end architecture, state management, and tooling.
  • Experience working with APIs and backend-integrated systems.
  • Ability to read and understand Python-based codebases (particularly research prototypes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills when working across technical disciplines.

Desirable Experience (Not Required):

  • Experience working on LLM-powered or AI-driven applications.
  • Exposure to agentic workflows or complex computational systems.
  • Background in start-ups or early-stage environments.
  • Experience building developer tools, dashboards, or technical UIs.

Who You Are:

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, research-heavy environment.
  • Curious and motivated by technically challenging problems.
  • Able to bridge the gap between complex backend systems and user experience.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and ownership-driven.
  • Interested in working closely with highly technical engineers and researchers.
