Infrastructure Engineer

IT Infrastructure Engineer Cambridge (5 days a week onsite) £43,000 About the Role If you're the kind of engineer who thrives on shaping modern, secure infrastructure from the ground up, this one's for you. You'll be joining a small, forward-thinking tech team embarking on a full-scale redesign of their network and infrastructure. This presents a clean slate to build something robust, scalable, and cloud-ready.This is a hands-on position where your work will be recognised and valued. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver infrastructure upgrade and modernisation projects
  • Maintain and develop secure, high-performance systems across Azure and on-prem environments
  • Manage Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, Exchange Online and SharePoint Online
  • Oversee virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Take ownership of networking (Cisco) and firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto)
  • Drive improvements in automation, monitoring, and security posture
  • Collaborate with internal dev teams to support cloud-hosted solutions

The Setup Working alongside a highly experienced Head of IT, you'll take the lead on delivering new infrastructure projects across servers, networking, and cloud. The environment is a blend of on-prem and Azure, with virtualisation, automation, and security at the heart of every decision.You'll have the freedom to introduce new tools, refine processes, and drive technical standards, while still keeping your hands on the kit. There are a couple of IT Technicians doing the day to day user support - although there will be some user support required on occasions, this role is more focussed on the servers, networking and more complex project work.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Solid background in a 3rd Line/IT Infrastructure role
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, and O365
  • Skilled with Azure and/or AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Strong virtualisation experience (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Confident in managing switches, firewalls, and secure networking
  • Excellent communicator with a proactive, solution-driven mindset
  • Happy working onsite in the office 5 days a week
