Search Engine Optimization Manager

The Profs Group is looking for a technically strong, hands-on SEO Manager to lead our organic growth across three brands: The Profs, Spires, and BitPaper. SEO is a core pillar of our digital strategy, and this role will own the development of a future-proof SEO roadmap in an environment shaped by AI-enabled search.

About the Role

You will lead a team of three SEO contractors while driving technical excellence, organic performance, and scalable processes across our digital ecosystem. If you thrive in technical SEO, love solving crawl issues, and are excited by where AI search is heading, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive SEO strategy roadmap across traditional and emerging AI-powered search platforms.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage an offshore SEO team, creating high-performance ways of working.
  • Act as the technical SEO expert across the business, ensuring alignment with senior stakeholders.
  • Champion SEO internally — sharing insights, identifying growth opportunities, and embedding best practice.
  • Partner with brand teams to shape long-term organic growth plans.
  • Conduct deep technical SEO audits and support budget planning and forecasting.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to crawlability, indexing, and site architecture.
  • Collaborate with developers and contractors to implement technical improvements.
  • Leverage AI tools to enhance research, content ideation, automation, and performance analysis.
  • Stay ahead of algorithm updates, industry shifts, and AI-driven search changes.
  • Define and track SEO OKRs aligned with our wider commercial goals.
  • Ensure timely delivery of SEO initiatives within budget, with a strong focus on performance KPIs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' technical SEO experience, ideally with complex or large-scale sites.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, site architecture, HTML/CSS, and ideally basic coding ability.
  • Ability to work with large datasets using GA4, GSC, and leading SEO platforms.
  • Proven ability to design and execute SEO strategies that deliver measurable results.
  • Strong awareness of LLM-driven search and the evolving search landscape.
  • Experience using AI to support content workflows, research, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a naturally inquisitive mindset.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of SEO trends, Google algorithms, and digital marketing fundamentals.
  • 2:1 degree or equivalent.

Required Skills

  • Deep experience in keyword research and intent mapping.
  • Creative and innovative approach to growth and strategy.
  • Experience leading SEO teams and managing contractors.
  • Advanced technical SEO knowledge including crawlability, site structure, and performance optimisation.
  • Proficient in GA4 and SEO platforms such as SE Ranking (or equivalents).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical thinker with strong project management capabilities.
  • Passionate learner who stays ahead of SEO and AI search developments.
  • Excellent understanding of search algorithm behaviour.
