Senior Cyber Security Engineer
Job summary
The Senior Cyber Security Engineer is a highly technical role, being responsible for developing and maintaining technical cyber security aspects of infrastructure and networks within The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, as well as implementing a "security-by-design" model on all new infrastructure and networking projects.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job are:
Implement a "Security-by-design" standpoint on all new infrastructure and networking systems, before configuration has begun.
Work with the Infrastructure, Networking, and Cyber Security Team to complete processes/documentation when a new system is implemented, and then regularly check the documentation to ensure it is up to date.
Assist in the management of internal and external routes in the network, such as VPN and DMZ, using tools such as firewalls and Appsec.
Harden Windows Servers using tools such as Manage Engine Endpoint Central, and CIS Benchmarking.
Leading Endpoint Central for the server half of the estate, with either performing remediation or assisting other members of the team on the remediation.
Work with third parties to implement new infrastructure and networking systems and software.
Improve Windows and Linux Security by installing patches and implementing changes
Assist in the creation of HLD's and LLD's for the Trusts network, as well as updating them when changes have occurred.
Assist in the management of core and access layer networking.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree in IT or equivalent experience
- Relevant certifications: CCNA/CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent.
- GCSE in Maths and English
Experience
- Technology focus - Cisco VSS, TCP/IP, IPsec, QoS, Telephony, Multicast, etc.)
- Dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
- Experience in managing, developing and maintaining IT systems
- Technical experience and recent exposure to be able to configure and troubleshoot EIGRP and BGP Routing
- Experience with Cisco network devices: switches, Wi-Fi controllers, ISE, Prime, CMX
- Proven experience in assisting with delivery of IT projects
- An excellent understanding of network services & protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, e-mail, FTP, SFTP
- Knowledge of Zero Trust Access frameworks and identity-first networking principles.
- Experience working within an ITIL based IT service management environment
- Proven experience of working in a highly effective support role within a complex network environment
- Proven track record of configuring and troubleshooting Cisco wireless LAN controllers at an enterprise level
- Familiarity with incident handling processes. IDS/IPS, encryption and certificate authorities.
- Prior experience performing security reviews and risk assessments preferred
Knowledge
- Knowledge of network architecture and design for performance, reliability and security.
- Knowledge of network engineering, support, and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of network traffic and performance parameters to interpret variance and service impact to users.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local and wide area networks (LAN, WAN) and protocols.
- Comprehensive knowledge of network architecture, configuration, protocols, and interconnectivity requirements for internal/external information transmission.
- oKnowledge of information security solutions, including data loss prevention, intrusion detection and prevention, network security monitoring and vulnerability management.
- Good knowledge of Network Configuration and Management
- Knowledge of IT security, IT infrastructure (e.g. Active Directory groups, file security, patching, vulnerability management, and networking), IT Risk (DR, redundancy, BCP) and experience of control and access management processes.
- Cloud based solutions; VMware on AWS, Azure, Office 365
