Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer

Job summary

Working as part of the Infrastructure Team, the Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer will play a key senior role in the support and development of critical core infrastructure systems and applications, with a focus on network infrastructure components. Along with supporting the Infrastructure Team Leader you will be involved significantly with all other IT teams to facilitate the delivery of projects, supporting changes and updates to our virtual and physical infrastructure. Excellent communication of complex information and issues between all IT teams will be essential to this role.

Main duties of the job

Primary tasks1. Lead in managing the Trust's primary network infrastructure2. Assist the Infrastructure Team to manage the Trust's primary physical server infrastructure and datacentres, storage systems and virtual desktop environment3. Maintain an effective, resilient and secure network environment, currently the Cisco, VMware and Dell networking environments4. Assist in managing an effective, resilient and secure Windows Server environment 2019/2022 and Active Directory Domain infrastructure.5. Assist and maintain the Trust's backup and data recovery platforms6. Lead in managing and maintaining the security patching and firmware updates of network components and assist in the security patching and antivirus activities of the Server Operating systems and Core Infrastructure platforms7. Mentor and support all team members with relevant technical support and knowledge transfer

Secondary Tasks

1. Maintain and manage relevant 2nd/3rd line incidents and changes from Halo and support members from any team in the resolution of complex incidents and changes2. When appropriate, participate in out of hours work and the on-call rota for the provision of support to the trust and users3. Coordinate and support with the Service desk Manager and 1st line teams to help provide strong and responsive solutions to front line service problems and development of new and effective desktop support solutions

Qualifications and Training

Essential
  • GCSE in Maths and English
  • Degree or equivalent IT knowledge
  • VMware VCP/View Administrator or equivalent knowledge acquired by experience
  • CCNA/CCNP Certification is preferred or equivalent knowledge acquired by experience

Experience

Essential
  • Proven specific experience in a support environment of a Cisco/HP/Dell networking environment
  • Proven specific experience in configuring and supporting cloud networking such as Amazon and Azure is desirable
  • Proven experience in working with cloud technologies and environments is desirable
  • Proven experience working with Microsoft Windows servers, virtualisation technologies (preferably VMware) and SAN architectures
  • Proven in-depth knowledge of a range of networking and server technologies
  • Experience of large office environment
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail required
  • Proven experience in assisting with delivery of IT projects

Knowledge

Essential
  • Hardware knowledge of Cisco/HP/Dell routers, switching, Wi-Fi technologies
  • Hardware and software firewalls and load balancers i.e. CheckPoint,Fortigate,F5
  • Software defined networking i.e. Cisco ISE
  • Networking protocols and standards i.e. TCP/IP, EIGRP, 802.11a/b/g/n, WPA/WPA2, VPN, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VRRP, HSRP
  • Network management tools i.e. Cisco Prime, Wireshark, Cisco ISE, TACACS, Radius, SNMP
  • Microsoft Windows Servers and Desktop operating systems
  • Databases technologies i.e. SQL
  • Microsoft Server and Virtualisation technologies
  • Active Directory security and administration including Group Policy Object (GPO)
  • Good general hardware knowledge i.e. printers, desktops, peripherals, mobile devices
