Technical Services Manager - EUC

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven IT professional with strong End User Computing experience and excellent Leadership and Communication skills to join our IT department. Working in a busy and dynamic environment, you will be responsible for guiding the work of the End User Computing Team providing a leading-edge desktop environment for internal users. This will include deploying and managing a modern desktop environment (plus supporting infrastructure), defining and delivering the transformation strategy for the desktop environment and contributing to the service operations improvement.

You will already have very strong Windows 11 desktop and Microsoft desktop skills in general and will have proven experience of leading or managing teams. As the Technical Services Manager - EUC you will ensure our IT Service Desk delivers a high-quality service to end users and that processes are followed to meet business needs, working in close collaboration with Infrastructure and Projects teams to evolve standards for hardware, software and security in the desktop environment to improve Desktop

Main duties of the job

  1. Managing the whole desktop computing environment to ensure that laptops, Desktops and other access devices are built and maintained to high standards of performance and security.
  2. Application Packaging and deployment with Install shield or equivalent applications with modification and creation of custom MSI packages.
  3. Manage the deployment of desktop images using VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon View.
  4. Deployment of Windows Apps using an MDM
  5. User Profile Management techniques regards to Roaming profiles, User Profile Disks and 3rd party technologies (Citrix Profile Manager/Profile unity etc.).
  6. Auto Provisioning of devices using Azure cloud, Intune device management and dual joining of computers to on-perm AD and Azure AD.
  7. Manage all EUC service desk incidents and changes to ensure that the appropriate staff are engaged.
  8. Patch management of windows end user devices (Manage Engine).
  9. User management (Active Directory, File services, printing).
  10. Cyber Security hardening of desktop images to provide users a secure, on-demand and scalable computing environment.
  11. Change Management should be used for any changes to image versions and the post holder must manage this process.
  12. Work with Cyber Security, IT Compliance & Risk Management to maintain low operational risks.
  13. Manage the EUC Team which consists of 4 members of the team. Ensure relevant PDR's, Training and developments are completed.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential
  • GCSE in Maths and English
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of the VMware virtual server/VDI environment
Desirable
  • Microsoft MCSA Windows 11 certification or equivalent work experience
  • Recognised ITIL Foundation qualification
  • Microsoft Server Operating systems especially Microsoft Server 2019/2022 and above

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience in desktop management in a professional service environment
  • Significant experience of VMware sphere Virtualisation server and Horizon view VDI technologies.
  • Significant experience of delivering 2nd line support
  • Good experience in image deployment toolsets
  • Strong experience supporting windows end user desktops, including Windows, MAC, Office
  • Experience of PowerShell scripting with Command line tools and basic scripting
  • Experience in windows security features such as AppLocker, file system, windows firewall.
Desirable
  • Basic programming experience useful with Visual Studio, Python and Java
  • Experience of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, Simple Terminal Server, VDI Pools, System Centre Virtual Machine Manager
  • Experience in deploying windows authentication technologies such as Smartcard Authentication, Biometric and Windows Hello
  • Experience with multiple "consuming" products e.g. iPAD's, Android and Tablets
  • Intel vPro/AMT technologies experience

Knowledge

Essential
  • Familiar with standard Service Management tools, such as Halo
  • Knowledge of Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Management Processes.
  • Good working knowledge of Active directories and Group policies
  • Good Working Knowledge of Microsoft office, Office 365
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems, Windows server 2016, Windows 11
  • Understanding of the window software installation process is essential.
  • In-depth working knowledge with respect to identification, troubleshooting and resolution of Windows 11 Operating System issues such as Start Menu manipulation and Environment lockdown
Desirable
  • Working knowledge of Antivirus and security eg Sophos, windows Bit locker & ATP

Skills

Essential
  • High level of diagnostic and fault-finding knowledge/skills and a broad range of IT knowledge/experience
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of the organisation and third-party organisations
Desirable
  • User Profile Management techniques for Roaming profiles, User Profile Disks and 3rd party technologies (Citrix Profile Manager/Profile unity etc.)
