Business Development Manager
Are you someone who can do more than simply manage warm leads?
Can you create opportunities, qualify them properly, ask strong questions, build trust quickly and close confidently?
The SMART Group is growing, and we are looking for two Business Development Managers to join our team.
This role would suit someone ambitious, resilient, commercially aware and accountable — someone who is not afraid to pick up the phone, start meaningful conversations with business owners and develop long-term customer value.
We supply innovative technology platforms into the UK Beauty and Medical Aesthetics market, helping our customers run stronger, smarter and more successful businesses. We are a fast-paced, people-focused company with big ambitions, and we are looking for salespeople who want to be part of the next stage of our growth.
This role could suit a natural hunter, someone who loves prospecting, opening doors and creating new opportunities. It could also suit a strong farmer, someone who is brilliant at building trust, developing accounts and spotting opportunities for long-term growth.
Ideally, you will be a bit of both. But more than anything, we are looking for curious, self-motivated people who care about doing things properly, building strong relationships and taking ownership of their success.
The role
As a Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying, developing and closing sales opportunities with SME business owners and decision makers across the beauty and medical aesthetics sector.
You’ll manage opportunities from first conversation through to close, using a consultative and value-led approach. This is not just about “selling a product”; it is about understanding customer pain points, asking the right questions, building trust and helping customers see how our solutions can support their business.
You’ll also work closely with the wider SMART team to make sure customers receive a great experience from the very first conversation.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll:
- Proactively prospect and generate new business opportunities
- Identify and qualify high-quality sales opportunities
- Manage leads through the full sales cycle, from first contact to close
- Book and deliver product demonstrations, mainly via Teams
- Understand customer pain points and position value-led solutions
- Build strong relationships with business owners and decision makers
- Negotiate confidently and close sales effectively
- Develop existing accounts to drive repeat business and long-term growth
- Manage your pipeline, follow-up activity and forecasting with discipline
- Spot commercial opportunities within the market and customer base
- Keep up to date with product, market and competitor knowledge
- Work closely with internal teams to deliver a high-quality customer experience
- Contribute to team performance, sales meetings and wider business growth
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is confident, commercially aware and comfortable creating opportunities, not just waiting for them to arrive.
You’ll enjoy speaking to customers, asking strong questions and finding out what really matters to them. You’ll be comfortable managing your own time, taking responsibility for your numbers and working in a target-driven environment.
You’ll need to be confident in, or keen to develop further in:
- Prospecting and new business generation
- Opportunity identification
- Qualification and customer needs analysis
- Consultative and value-based selling
- Closing and negotiation
- Account development and repeat business growth
- Pipeline management and forecasting
- Strategic thinking and commercial awareness
- Building trust with different buyer types
- Adapting your communication style depending on the customer
The right person will be proactive, organised, resilient and motivated by both personal success and team performance. You’ll bring energy, accountability and a positive attitude to the role.
Experience we’d like to see
We are looking for someone with:
- At least 2 years’ sales experience
- Experience selling to SME business owners, ideally but not essentially
- Confidence managing a sales pipeline and closing business
- Experience selling higher-value products, services or solutions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly
Experience in aesthetics, beauty, health, or capital equipment sales would be a bonus, but it is not essential. If you have the right sales mindset, commercial awareness and attitude, we would still love to hear from you.
