Infrastructure Automation Engineer

The Infrastructure Automation Engineering Service delivers automation for a secure, multi-site platform, building high-quality components using Python3, Ansible and Bash. The role focuses on hardware platforms, system services, and integration with REST/SOAP APIs.Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and validate infrastructure automation components.
  • Reverse-engineer applications, designs and manual processes into zero-touch automation.
  • Develop parameterised, dynamic automation for consistent multi-environment deployment.
  • Produce production-grade code aligned with industry and internal standards.
  • Use Git/Bitbucket for version control, peer review and collaboration.
  • Create and review HLD/LLD design artefacts.
  • Support system testing and resolve automation-related issues with Service Management.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • 12+ months hands-on experience (within last 3 years) in:
    • Building complex Python3 automation for production systems
    • Using Ansible/Puppet/Chef
    • Bash scripting for OS-level automation
    • Automating server, network and storage deployments across multiple vendors
    • Supporting large-scale infrastructure environments
    • Troubleshooting hardware/software failures
    • Working in Agile teams
  • Strong Python3 capability including workflows, DSC and bare-metal deployment.
  • At least one recent professional certification (e.g., CCNP, VCP, RHCA/RHCE, OCA).
  • Excellent communication, analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Active SC clearance.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo).
  • Experience in secure or regulated public-sector environments.
  • Background delivering accredited UK government solutions.
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field.
