Security Services Operations SME - Reference & Master Data Management Experience

Location: Edinburgh - Hybrid

Role Overview:

The Security Services Operations SME will be responsible for providing domain and operational expertise across the bank's Reference Data and Master Data programs, ensuring high-quality data governance, process optimization, and alignment with strategic transformation initiatives. The role requires deep knowledge of Security Services operations (Custody, Fund Services, Settlements, Corporate Actions, Pricing, and Asset Servicing) and the data architecture that underpins these processes.

The SME will work closely with Operations, Technology, Data Governance, and Product teams to design, implement, and optimize enterprise-wide data models and workflows supporting securities reference and client master data.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Securities Operations and Data Management, with specific focus on Reference Data (Instrument, Issuer, Counterparty) and Master Data (Client, Account, Legal Entity) domains.
  • Partner with Front Office, Operations, and Technology teams to define and refine data models, hierarchies, and integration points across trading, settlement, and custody systems.
  • Lead or support data remediation, standardization, and migration activities as part of global transformation programs.
  • Establish and maintain data quality frameworks, controls, and monitoring for core data sets across multiple asset classes.
  • Work with enterprise architecture and CDO (Chief Data Office) teams to align reference data models with regulatory and business requirements (MiFID II, CSDR, SFTR, etc.).
  • Provide analytical insight on data lineage, usage, and dependencies across Security Services operational platforms.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives within Securities Operations to enhance data accuracy, automation, and straight-through processing (STP).
  • Support change management, including user acceptance testing (UAT), documentation, and training for global operations teams.
  • Represent Operations in governance forums related to data strategy, data ownership, and metadata management.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Hands on years of experience in Investment Banking Operations or Security Services (Custody / Asset Servicing / Fund Accounting).
  • Proven expertise in Reference Data Management and Master Data within large-scale data transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of instrument data, client hierarchies, and account structures across asset classes (Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives).
  • Experience with data governance tools and reference data platforms (e.g., GoldenSource, Bloomberg, EDM, Markit, SmartStream, or internal MDM systems).
  • Familiarity with data modelling, lineage, and metadata management principles.
  • Ability to interpret and translate operational requirements into data management and technology solutions.
  • Hands-on exposure to SQL, data analysis tools, and reporting frameworks advantageous.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, documentation, and communication skills - able to bridge Operations and Technology teams.
  • Prior experience in regulatory reporting or control functions is a plus.
