The Opportunity
We’re looking for a bright, commercially minded individual to join our growing e-commerce retail business and develop into a future Business Manager.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in e-commerce, online trading, merchandising, category management, or commercial analysis who is ready to take the next step.
You might currently be an E-commerce Executive, Trading Executive, Marketplace Executive, Assistant Merchandiser, Product Executive or Commercial Analyst and feel ready for greater commercial responsibility.
You will work closely with experienced members of our team and develop the commercial judgement, analytical skills and practical experience required to progress into a Business Manager role.
We are a small, entrepreneurial business, so you will be expected to get involved, ask questions, use your initiative and take increasing responsibility as your knowledge develops.
This is a role for someone who wants to learn quickly, make things happen and have a genuine impact on business performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Product Listing and Marketplace Management
You will build a detailed understanding of our products, customers and categories, including:
- Assisting with the setup and launch of new products.
- Supporting the continued growth of our marketplace business and ongoing product optimisation
- Working with partners and suppliers to ensure product compliance
- Gradually taking commercial responsibility for allocated product categories.
Promotions & Online Trading
You will help plan, evaluate and improve our promotional activity, including:
- Planning and implementing promotions
- Helping determine which products and categories should feature in campaigns.
- Working with colleagues to ensure our commercial priorities are reflected across our websites and marketing activity.
- Completing post-promotion analysis to understand what worked, what didn’t and what we should do differently next time..
General Trading & Commercial Performance
You will develop an understanding of what drives revenue, margin and profitability across the business. Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring product-level sales, margin, stock and availability.
- Identifying best sellers, slow-moving products and emerging opportunities.
- Supporting decisions on product ranges, new product introductions and discontinuations.
- Identifying opportunities to increase sales, margin and profitability.
- Helping manage stockholding to achieve the best possible return on investment.
- Producing and interpreting commercial reports and using AI, Excel and business systems to turn data into practical actions. We are not looking for someone who simply produces reports. We want someone who can look at information, ask “Why is this happening?” and “What should we do about it?”
Pricing & Margin
You will help ensure our pricing remains both competitive and commercially effective by:
- Reviewing selling prices, product costs and margins.
- Monitoring competitor pricing and wider market activity.
- Supporting promotional pricing, discounts and markdowns.
- Ensuring pricing decisions are commercially justified and correctly implemented.
Stock & Inventory Management
Stock is one of the biggest investments within a retail business, so understanding how to manage it effectively will be a key part of your development.
You will:
- Monitor stock levels, availability and stock cover.
- Analyse stock turn, ageing stock and slow-moving inventory.
- Make recommendations on future container and stock ordering.
- Help identify and reduce excess and obsolete stock.
- Balance product availability against the cost of holding inventory.
- Improve forecasting through analysis of historic sales, seasonality, promotions and emerging trends.
Customer & Market Insight
Good commercial decisions start with understanding customers and the market.
You will:
- Analyse customer, product and order data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Use customer feedback, product reviews and returns information to identify potential improvements.
- Turn customer and market insight into practical commercial actions.
Data, AI & Analysis
We expect data and AI to become increasingly important to how we operate our business.
You will be enthusiastic about using AI and willing to self-learn and experiment where required. You will be confident in excel and be able to quickly learn business intelligence tools and e-commerce reporting systems to analyse performance and solve problems.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications matter less to us than your attitude, ability and potential.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong commercial mindset and genuine interest in business and e-commerce.
- Ideally 1-2 years of previous e-commerce or commercial experience
- Previous experience of Shopify is helpful
- Is numerate, analytical and comfortable working with data.
- Is a self-starter who looks for practical solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Has initiative and a naturally inquisitive mind.
- Enjoys technology and is interested in using AI and new systems to work smarter.
- Is comfortable learning through doing, testing and experimenting.
- Can adapt quickly when priorities change.
- Has good attention to detail and takes accuracy seriously.
- Has the determination and drive to get things done.
- Is comfortable juggling multiple priorities.
- Enjoys working as part of a small team where everyone is expected to contribute.
A degree, apprenticeship or relevant qualification in Business Management, E-commerce, Retail, Finance, Marketing, Economics or a related discipline would be useful, but it is not essential.
What is essential is strong numeracy, commercial awareness, curiosity and the willingness to learn.
This Role Probably Isn’t for You If...
We believe in being transparent about the environment you would be joining.
This role is unlikely to suit you if:
- You want to specialise immediately and only work within one narrow area.
- You need a highly structured environment with a large team and clearly defined boundaries around your responsibilities.
- You prefer theory and procedure to solving practical commercial problems.
- You want a steady-paced role where priorities rarely change.
- You prefer to wait for detailed instructions rather than taking initiative.
- You are uncomfortable being accountable for outcomes and having your decisions measured by results.
This Role Could Be Perfect for You If...
- You want to work in an entrepreneurial environment where your ideas will be heard and you can make a real difference.
- You enjoy a fast-paced environment with genuine responsibility and accountability.
- You want to learn quickly by being exposed to many different areas of a business.
- You like solving problems and finding better ways of doing things.
- You are excited by the potential of e-commerce, technology, data and AI.
- You want your responsibility to grow as quickly as your ability does.
- You want to work in an employee-owned business where you can help shape its future.
Development & Progression
You will initially work alongside experienced members of our team, learning the business's commercial drivers from the ground up.
Early in the role, you will gain exposure to all areas of the business. We believe that to make good commercial decisions, you first need to understand how the business actually operates — from products, stock and purchasing through to websites, marketplaces, marketing, customers and finance.
As your knowledge and competence develop, you will take on increasing responsibility for marketplaces, marketing, promotions, product categories, and areas of trading performance.
We expect you to progress from supporting commercial decisions to making and owning them.
For the right person, we envisage this developing into a significant commercial role and an opportunity to become one of the key people driving the business's future growth.
