The Opportunity

As an R&D Fintech Software Assistant Manager, you will:

  • Manage client relationships across financial services, fintech, and crypto businesses, acting as a key point of contact.
  • Undertake financial assessments of R&D claims and prepare submissions to HMRC, including the R&D Additional Information Form and pre-notifications.
  • Work alongside technical tax experts to ensure compliance with legislation and support in responding to HMRC enquiries.
  • Analyse R&D project costs, translating complex software and technical concepts into clear, concise reports for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support Patent Box claims and cross-sector innovation projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across audit, tax, and advisory to deliver joined-up client service.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, cross-selling opportunities, and thought leadership in the fintech and software space.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree (ideally MSc/MEng/PhD) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related software/engineering discipline.
  • At least 2–3 years’ professional experience in software development, engineering, or an R&D tax consultancy role.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture, development processes, APIs, or similar technical areas.
  • Previous experience preparing R&D tax relief claims for software clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into non-technical language for a broad client base.
  • Commercial awareness and an active interest in financial services, fintech, and crypto.
  • Strong attention to detail, numerical ability, and confidence in handling project finances.
  • Proactive, client-focused, and able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.
