Job summary
Salary: £27,000 per annum dependent on experience. Please note: This position is independently set outside of the standard NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) banding framework.
We intend this role to be a training and learning position, and we will support the successful candidate in career development training that matches our organisational objectives. This may range from a management or professional apprenticeship to NHS Leadership Academy training.

Main duties of the job
The Junior IT and Data Support Officer will support the delivery of IT, data, and digital transformation initiatives across GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), and community healthcare services. The role involves assisting with data analysis and reporting, supporting clinical systems and digital tools, helping to improve data quality, delivering user support and training, and contributing to projects that enhance service performance and patient care.
The post holder will work closely with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and external partners to support system development, information management, and the successful implementation of technology solutions across the organisation.

Job responsibilities
The Junior IT and Data Support Officer will support the delivery of IT, data and digital transformation projects across GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and community healthcare services. Working alongside the IT and Data Support Officer, the post holder will help ensure that projects and programmes are effectively planned, delivered and monitored, contributing to improved patient care and service performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the collection, analysis and reporting of data from clinical, community and organisational systems.
- Assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of IT systems, digital tools and reporting solutions.
- Supporting GP practices and healthcare teams in the effective use of clinical systems and national NHS programmes, including electronic referrals, GP2GP, Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) and Summary Care Records.
- Contributing to data quality improvement initiatives, ensuring information is accurate, complete and fit for purpose.
- Assisting with the planning, organisation and delivery of system development and digital transformation projects.
- Supporting the development and delivery of user training, guidance and documentation for new systems and processes.
- Working with colleagues and stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement through the effective use of technology and data.
- Producing reports, dashboards and performance information to support decision-making and service development.
- Supporting the investigation and resolution of IT and system-related issues.
- Contributing to meetings, working groups and project activities across the organisation.
- Assisting in the monitoring of project progress, risks, issues and performance indicators.
- Supporting compliance with information governance, confidentiality, data protection and organisational policies.
The role requires excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Occasional travel to GP practices and healthcare sites across Barking and Dagenham may be required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualification, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
- Experience of working with IT systems, data management, reporting tools or digital projects.
- Experience of using EMIS Web or other healthcare information systems.
- Experience of working with data analysis, reporting and data quality improvement.
- Experience of delivering training, guidance or support to system users.
- Experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including clinicians and operational teams.
- Experience of supporting projects and contributing to the successful delivery of project objectives.
- Ability to analyse information from multiple sources and present findings clearly and accurately.
- Experience of managing competing priorities and working to deadlines.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience of working within an NHS, primary care or wider healthcare environment.
- Experience of using Power BI or similar business intelligence and reporting tools.
- Understanding of NHS data standards, clinical coding and data quality requirements.
- Knowledge of national NHS digital programmes and clinical systems.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies or tools, such as PRINCE2 or Microsoft Project.
- Understanding of the public sector and healthcare commissioning environment.
