The Role:
We've partnered with a global leader in financial information services to source a highly experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to be an early leader for their collaborative teams in Manchester. This is a high-visibility technical and leadership role that directly influences the strategic direction and success of the core analytical business systems.
This position is designed for a seasoned engineer with a strong background in Java primarily but also a holistic understanding and appreciation for technologies such as React, and Python.
You won't just be managing; you will be overseeing the architecture and execution of full-stack applications while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
**This is a great opportunity to be involved in the early stages of the build out of a tech delivery function in Manchester, to add to the existing offices in New York and London**
What You'll Be Leading
As the Team Lead, your responsibilities combine deep technical oversight with strategic team management:
- Technical Strategy: Producing and executing the software engineering strategy for full-stack applications, ensuring alignment with business roadmaps and priorities.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire software engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Architecture & Design: Oversee the design and development of applications using Java, React, and Python to ensure robustness, scalability, and maintainability.
- Agile Delivery: Establish tools, standards, and ways of working that expedite Agile delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Enterprise Data and Architecture teams to ensure seamless delivery of software solutions.
The Technical Core
This role requires substantial experience in large-scale, high-performance environments with a focus on full-stack excellence:
- Experience: Extensive background in software engineering, including significant experience in a leadership role.
- Core Technology: Mastery of Java (Spring Boot) and appreciation for React, and Python is essential.
- Modern Architecture: Proven experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and microservices architecture.
- Event-Driven Systems: Demonstrated experience in applying streaming and event-driven techniques.
- Holistic Tech/Non-Tech Stakeholder Liaison: Experience and ability to deal with technical and non-technical stakeholders (Product, Scrum, QA, Data, Non-technical business personnel)
What Makes You Stand Out
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes / EKS).
- Knowledge and exposure to Kafka.
- Experience within the Financial Services industry.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to stakeholders.
Location/Office Presence:
You'll work in their brand new Manchester offices in the central business district of the city. Tech personnel are required to be present in the office at east two days per week, with the remainder of the week being remote.
