Information Governance Officer

Job summary

The role involves acting as the subject matter expert on Information Governance (IG) matters, supporting the Data Protection Officer and Head of Information Governance in managing the IG agenda across the Trust.

This includes providing expert advice on Confidentiality, Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and Information Security to ensure the safe and efficient processing of personal and corporate information.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for ensuring the Trust's compliance with UK data protection legislation such as the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK-GDPR

Support and gather evidence for the Trust's annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) self-assessment. Ensuring the Trust retains a minimum of 'standards met' to comply with NHS England contractual obligations.

Provide expert advice on IT projects, system procurement, and new data processing areas by reviewing and recommending on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and data sharing.

Lead the investigation of data protection incidents, working with clinical teams and Human Resources to ensure appropriate actions are taken and incidents are reported to the Information Commissioners Office as required.

Support and undertake information governance audits to provide assurance to the Trust that information governance is embedded within the Trust

Provide information, guidance, training and support on matters relating to confidentiality / data protection and escalating through line management as required

Work widely and collaboratively across the Trust Care Groups to ensure Information Governance best practices are established and adhered to.
