Contract Type: 3-months initial contract
Hours: 35-37 hours per week, Monday-Friday, standard business hours
Pay Rate: £271.57 per day (PAYE)
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer with strong system integration expertise to ensure reliable, well-structured, and trusted data flows between systems. The role involves implementing platform enhancements, managing operational processes, and delivering system and database customisations across SQL Server, QTC/Unit4 environments, and system-to-system migration assessments. The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling analytics, reporting, and digital services by maintaining high-quality, secure, and accessible data.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain SQL Server-based data solutions, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor ETL/ELT workflows, including incremental loads, CDC, SCDs, and error-handling mechanisms.
- Support system integrations and migrations, including QTC/Unit4 platforms.
- Provide operational support and troubleshooting for production systems.
- Design, document, and implement technical solutions, adhering to best practices in data modelling and architecture.
- Ensure data governance, cataloguing, lineage, and metadata management are followed.
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Optimise SQL Server performance, including indexing, execution plans, partitioning, and tempdb usage.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 3-5 years' experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016+ and SSIS in production environments.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in applications support and maintenance.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in business analysis, technical design, and documentation.
- At least 3 years' experience with the full project management life cycle.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata, cataloguing, and data lineage principles.
- Proficiency in SQL Server Agent, SSIS logging, SSISDB deployment, and workflow orchestration.
- Proven experience with ETL/ELT design patterns, including incremental loads, CDC, SCD, error handling, and idempotency.
- Advanced data modelling skills (Kimball, dimensional, relational).
- Strong SQL Server engineering skills, including advanced T-SQL, indexing, performance tuning, execution plans, statistics, partitioning, and tempdb optimisation.
