Voice And Data Networks IT Engineer

A Voice And Data Networks IT Engineer is needed to be responsible for maintaining network infrastructure, troubleshooting voice and data connectivity issues, configuring network and teams communication equipment by different vendors and implementing system upgrades.

The day-to-day duties include monitoring network performance, responding to technical support requests, documenting system changes, and collaborating with IT teams to maintain service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with both internal and external customers, investigating and providing resolutions to fault reports and work requests initiated from the IT Service Desk, the Project Management Office, Problem Management, and other teams within IT Services.
  • Contribute suggestions and recommendations in order to promote ongoing service improvement across the Voice and Data Networks team's area of speciality and provide a high standard of customer care at all times.
  • Ensure that a range of agreed technologies and business applications are available to agreed service levels.
  • Monitor the Council's call management system, taking responsibility for the tickets assigned to them and ensuring that they are processed and dealt with within the timeframes dictated by existing service level agreements
  • Work very closely with other Voice and Data Networks team members, supporting, assisting, and sharing knowledge as appropriate.
  • Work closely with managers and clients who use systems and maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and with colleagues. Communicates effectively with IT and non-IT staff.

Qualifications:

  • Full UK driving licence.

Skills & experience:

  • Previous, demonstrable experience of working in a fast-paced, customer-focused IT technical environment with both office and field-based work having been undertaken.
  • Strong fault diagnosis skills showing an ability to investigate issues in a clear and logical manner.
  • ITIL awareness and understanding, with the ability to follow processes and procedures - desirable
  • Familiarity in preparing procedure documents and training guides.
  • Familiarity in network fundamentals including the following: TCP/IP & OSI Model, IP Addressing and Subnetting, Ethernet Standards (IEEE 802.3), Wireless Standards (IEEE 802.11)
  • Additional technical skills in the following: Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Switches and Routers, Fortinet Fortigate, Fortinet FortiAnalyzer, Fortinet FortiManager
