Troi Search are delighted to be working with this post Series A, IoT start-up as they look for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join the team. The client have built innovative solutions to disrupt an entire industry.

We're looking for experience across C, C++, Bluetooth (BLE) & LoRa (LoRaWan).

Key details:

- 2 days per week in Central London

- Paying up to £80k max + package (including options)

- Senior role, defining the systems architecture between the HW, FW & SW elements of the business.

Full description:

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with expertise in firmware development and embedded systems to join the team. In this role, you will define and specify interfaces between low-power embedded devices and cloud resources, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance. You will also play a critical role in managing contractors, ensuring project timelines, quality, and technical alignment.

Position Overview

  • Establish and define communication protocols and interfaces for low-power embedded devices within integrated platforms.
  • Develop and evaluate firmware architectures to enhance performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Collaborate with teams across hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure to ensure smooth system integration.
  • Create and manage technical documentation, including system specifications, interface details, and design standards.
  • Source, assess, and oversee external contractors for hardware development projects.
  • Ensure contractor outputs align with predefined quality, timeline, and performance benchmarks.
  • Conduct technical reviews, diagnose complex system challenges, and coordinate solutions across teams.
  • Stay informed about evolving trends, best practices, and advancements in embedded systems and firmware engineering.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in embedded systems engineering and firmware development.
  • Strong system-level understanding with the ability to integrate hardware, firmware, and software components.
  • Expertise in IoT and wireless technologies.
  • Prior experience in defining and overseeing contractor deliverables.

Preferred Expertise

  • Proficiency in ARM-based embedded systems and advanced software stacks.
  • Knowledge of LoRaWAN, Bluetooth (BLE)
  • Experience designing battery-powered devices.
  • Understanding of security protocols for embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile development frameworks.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory certifications for global markets (CE, UKCA, FCC, IC, etc.).
