We are looking for an experienced Senior / Lead Agile Delivery Manager to support the delivery of key strategic technology initiatives within a large-scale public sector digital environment.

This role will suit someone with strong applied experience working closely with software engineering teams, who can confidently understand technical delivery challenges, facilitate progress, challenge where needed, and help teams deliver value across multiple workstreams.

You will be working alongside engineering strategy, product, DevOps, architecture, and wider delivery teams to support shared capability, technical enablers, and reusable components that enable feature delivery teams to move faster and more effectively.

Day Rate: up to £550 per day

Start Date: ASAP

Clearance: BPSS eligiblity and willingness to undergo

Location: Leeds or Newcastle

Working Pattern: Hybrid — regular visibility required in Leeds or Newcastle, with flexibility for the right candidate

Travel Expenses: Up to £1,000

The Role

As Senior / Lead Agile Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving delivery across strategic software engineering initiatives. You will lead agile delivery practices, support multiple technical workstreams, manage dependencies, and ensure teams are able to deliver outcomes effectively.

You will work closely with Product Managers, engineering stakeholders, architects, DevOps teams, and other Delivery Managers to maintain clear plans, ordered backlogs, and transparent reporting. The role requires someone who can quickly understand business needs, OKRs, technical roadmaps, and the wider delivery context.

This is a hands-on delivery leadership role within a software development environment, so recent experience working directly with engineering teams is essential.

Essential Experience

The successful candidate will need:

  • Strong applied experience as an Agile Delivery Manager within software development environments.
  • Experience leading agile delivery teams and facilitating agile ceremonies.
  • Recent hands-on experience working closely with software engineering teams.
  • Ability to understand technical delivery contexts and confidently challenge or push back where needed.
  • Strong planning, coordination, synchronisation, and execution skills.
  • Experience managing risks, issues, dependencies, blockers, and cross-team delivery challenges.
  • Experience supporting multiple strands of work across complex delivery environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand business needs, OKRs, product roadmaps, and technical delivery plans.
  • Experience maintaining ordered backlogs and supporting Product Managers with delivery priorities.
  • Strong reporting skills, with the ability to communicate progress clearly and openly.
  • An agile mindset, with the ability to innovate around constraints and remove impediments.
  • Ability to build strong relationships quickly with engineers, product teams, delivery partners, and senior stakeholders.
Tooling & Technical Awareness

You should have strong working knowledge of:

  • Jira, at both team and programme level
  • ServiceNow or similar change/request management tools
  • Mural, Lucid, or similar collaboration tools

You should also have awareness or working familiarity with:

  • Azure
  • AWS
  • Terraform
  • Git branching strategies
  • Release pipeline creation and maintenance
  • Testing practices
  • Data platforms and data flows
  • Modern software engineering and DevOps practices
  • CI/CD concepts
About You

You will likely be a strong fit if you are a technically aware delivery leader who can operate confidently in engineering-heavy environments. You will be able to work across multiple teams, understand the realities of software delivery, and bring structure, clarity, and momentum to complex work.

You should be proactive, collaborative, and comfortable engaging with technical stakeholders, Product Managers, delivery partners, and other Agile Delivery Managers. You will need to be visible and engaged with teams in either Leeds or Newcastle, while working flexibly within a hybrid model.
