Role Overview
- Lead AWS cloud architecture design across complex, secure environments
- Ensure solutions align with the AWS Well-Architected Framework
- Balance hands-on delivery with strategic advisory responsibilities
- Operate effectively in regulated and public sector contexts
Key Responsibilities
- Design, review, and assure AWS cloud architectures
- Provide technical leadership from discovery through deployment
- Support architecture governance, including:
- Assurance reviews
- Architectural Decision Records (ADRs)
- Define cloud strategies and technical roadmaps with stakeholders
- Identify opportunities for:
- Automation
- AI and ML integration
- Cloud cost optimisation
- Lead architecture and discovery workshops (technical & non-technical)
- Maintain and evolve architectural standards and reusable patterns
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory frameworks:
- ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 20000, ISO 22301
- Cyber Essentials Plus
- Collaborate with delivery teams to ensure architectural integrity
Required Experience
- Proven experience designing AWS architectures using best practices
- Strong knowledge of AWS services across:
- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Identity & Access Management
- Security
- Experience with multi-account AWS environments
- Security-first design mindset
- Strong stakeholder engagement and presentation skills
- Experience working within governed or regulated environments
- Confident architectural decision-making and cross-team collaboration
Desirable Experience
- 3+ years in AWS-focused cloud architecture roles
- AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) certification
- Public sector or national security project experience
- Exposure to machine learning, AI, or automation tooling
