Location: On-site in Sunderland (Hybrid working available)
Travel: Occasional travel to other UK offices (approximately one day per month)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
The Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer is responsible for the management, support, and improvement of core IT infrastructure and cloud services. The role focuses primarily on on-premise infrastructure, networking, and security, with additional responsibility for supporting Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
The successful candidate will help maintain a secure, reliable, and high-performing infrastructure environment, while also supporting automation, monitoring, disaster recovery planning, and continuous improvement of IT services. The role will also provide 3rd line support and mentoring to service desk staff where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain core IT infrastructure, including Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and enterprise networking.
- Support Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services where required.
- Maintain and optimise network topology, firewalls, and security platforms.
- Monitor infrastructure performance and system availability.
- Troubleshoot incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Implement and maintain security best practices and vulnerability management.
- Develop automation and configuration management to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide 3rd line technical support and guidance to IT support teams.
- Maintain documentation for infrastructure, systems, and procedures.
- Assist with IT due diligence, integrations, and onboarding of partner organisations.
Skills and experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Infrastructure or Systems Engineering role.
- Strong experience with Windows Server (2016/2022) and enterprise infrastructure.
- Experience managing Active Directory, Entra ID, and Group Policy.
- Experience with networking technologies including VLANs, routing, DHCP, DNS, and 802.1x.
- Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and cyber security best practices.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure services.
- Experience with SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint administration, and endpoint management tools such as Intune.
- Backup and recovery experience (e.g. Veeam).
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
