We’re looking for a Senior Technical Business Analyst to support the delivery of key strategic initiatives within a software engineering environment.
This is not a traditional business-facing BA role. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, architecture, DevOps, product, data and security teams to help define, shape and document technical requirements that support software delivery teams.
You’ll be joining a new team focused on shared capability, technical enablers and internal services that support feature delivery teams. The stakeholders for this role are primarily technical teams, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with engineers, understanding software development practices, and challenging technical assumptions where needed.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with software engineering, DevOps, architecture, data, security and product teams to understand requirements and delivery priorities.
- Facilitate technical discussions to help shape the right design and delivery approach.
- Analyse complex business and technical processes, identifying opportunities, risks, benefits and constraints.
- Elicit, map, validate and document technical requirements.
- Write clear technical user stories and acceptance criteria that meet the definition of ready.
- Support development and testing teams by providing ongoing clarification throughout delivery.
- Work across multiple strands of technical work, helping teams identify and build shared services and reusable components.
- Support discovery, ideation, scoping, proof of concept and capability assessment activity.
- Help define success factors, assumptions, risks, proposals and value realisation plans.
- Build strong working relationships with technical stakeholders while constructively challenging where required.
- Ensure solution requirements accurately reflect stakeholder and user needs.
- Recent experience working as a Technical Business Analyst or Senior Business Analyst within a software development environment.
- Strong applied experience working directly with software development or engineering teams.
- Good understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile delivery and technical delivery practices.
- Experience writing technical user stories, acceptance criteria and requirements for development teams.
- Ability to work closely with engineers and understand what they do, including being able to challenge or push back appropriately.
- Experience facilitating technical workshops or discussions.
- Strong requirements engineering experience, including mapping, validating, scoping and detailing requirements.
- Experience working across multiple technical workstreams.
- Good understanding of QA/testing approaches and how requirements flow through development and test.
- Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps or similar.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly with technical audiences.
- Previous government or public sector experience.
- Experience working on internal platforms, shared capability, technical enablers or engineering enablement initiatives.
- Experience working with DevOps, architecture, data engineering, security or platform teams.
- Experience supporting discovery, proof of concept or technical capability assessments.
- BPSS clearance or eligibility to obtain BPSS.
This role requires someone operating at approximately SFIA Level 5.
You should be able to demonstrate experience providing authoritative guidance, steering delivery under broad direction, and taking accountability for significant work outcomes from analysis through to execution and evaluation across multiple technical workstreams.
Location RequirementsCandidates must live within approximately 90 minutes of Newcastle or Leeds and be able to attend site 3 days per week.
