Senior Software Developer(Kotlin/Java)

  • Contract Type: Initial 3-Month Contract
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Day Rate: Up to £500 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance preferred, or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance
  • Location: Primarily remote with occasional onsite attendance (maximum once per month). Site locations may vary and could include London, Leeds, or Sheffield.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Developer with strong back-end engineering expertise in Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot. The successful candidate will join a collaborative Agile team, contributing to the development of high-quality software solutions within a government-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, architects, product teams, and stakeholders.
  • Champion engineering best practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Contribute to technical discussions, solution design, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the delivery of high-quality software within Agile delivery teams.
  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience as a Back-End Software Engineer or Developer.
  • Strong commercial experience with:
  • Kotlin
  • Java
  • Spring Boot
  • Proven expertise in Test-Driven Development (TDD), with the ability to demonstrate this during a pairing exercise at interview stage.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and modern development methodologies.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working within government or public sector environments.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on secure, large-scale digital services.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and DevOps principles.
  • Previous experience working within teams requiring Security Clearance.

Deliverables

  • Support delivery of project objectives during the initial 3-month Statement of Work.
  • Produce high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Contribute positively to team performance and technical excellence.
