We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a small, friendly team within an SME of around 20 people, based in Cambridge. Our client's work supports groundbreaking research in neuroscience, pharmacology, and engineering, with a global customer base of scientists and researchers.

About the Role
You’ll be involved in the full development lifecycle, enhancing and maintaining Windows-based software applications used in scientific research. You’ll also liaise with external partners and help support existing users of the software. This is a hands-on role that blends technical depth with autonomy and real impact and would suit someone who has worked in small businesses to make an impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve Windows applications in C++ using MFC and STL
- Provide software support to researchers and scientific users
- Collaborate with third-party companies to ensure smooth hardware/software integration
- Work on file import functionality from third-party formats
- Contribute to the product roadmap by advising the sales team on development priorities
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience developing Windows-based applications in C++ using MFC and STL
- Experience with Visual Studio development environment
- A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline (BEng/BSc)
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of neuroscience or scientific research environments
- Experience with embedded systems programming, especially on ARM architecture
- Familiarity with Matlab or Python
