Research Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an Acoustic Research Engineer to join a world-class research team developing next-generation audio technologies for augmented and virtual reality applications. This role focuses on creating immersive audio experiences through advanced acoustic research, audio signal processing, and experimental data collection.

You will work in a state-of-the-art acoustic laboratory equipped with anechoic chambers, configurable acoustic spaces, and advanced measurement systems to conduct cutting-edge research in acoustics and auditory perception.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct acoustic measurements and audio data collection experiments.
  • Develop systems, user interfaces, and protocols for acoustic and behavioural data acquisition using Python, MATLAB, and MaxMSP.
  • Process and analyse complex audio and acoustic datasets.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and research teams to integrate data acquisition and signal processing algorithms into research platforms.
  • Perform experiments involving microphones, speakers, prototype hardware, and human subjects in controlled laboratory environments.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master's degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in audio technology development.
  • Proven experience designing and conducting audio/acoustic experiments in controlled laboratory environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with acoustic measurements, audio data collection, and audio signal processing.
  • 3+ years of programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or MaxMSP.
  • Strong understanding of acoustic instrumentation and laboratory testing methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with real-time audio programming using C/C++.
  • Knowledge of Psychoacoustics, Auditory Perception, Spatial Audio, Room Acoustics, or Physical Acoustics.
  • Experience with PyTorch or other machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience working with prototype hardware and motion tracking systems.
  • Experience designing and setting up acoustic laboratory environments.
