Job Title: Systems Engineer II – Audio & Lab Systems

Location: Cambridge, UK – Onsite

Duration: 11 Months (Possible to extend)

About the Role:

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join research team working on cutting-edge audio data collection systems for virtual and augmented reality applications. This is an exciting opportunity to work with advanced prototype devices, state-of-the-art audio labs, and motion capture systems to support innovative R&D projects.

You will be responsible for managing lab infrastructure, performing data collection, and improving hardware and software systems to enhance research efficiency. This is a highly independent role, ideal for engineers who thrive on solving complex system-level challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, configure, and test prototype devices, audio equipment, and motion capture systems
  • Manage and maintain device networks, including switches and related infrastructure
  • Perform multimodal data collections in controlled lab environments
  • Debug and resolve system issues ranging from localized to full system-level problems
  • Contribute to hardware and software improvements for more efficient data collection
  • Support and guide internal and external volunteers in lab operations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field (significant industry experience may be considered)
  • 2+ years of experience with systems integrating hardware, firmware, and software
  • 2+ years experience in Python, scripting, Linux administration
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and device configuration
  • Experience with audio equipment and digital audio data
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with motion tracking systems
  • Experience with large-scale automated data collection and analysis
  • Experience configuring and managing network switches and device networks
  • Experience with prototype hardware devices and Android/ADB command line
  • Familiarity with automation of configuration management and deployment
