Data Center Engineer
The Opportunity:
UST is looking for a skilled Data Center Technician to manage day-to-day data center operations, support infrastructure reliability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role involves working on hardware installations, cabling, troubleshooting, and contributing to continuous improvement through documentation and knowledge sharing.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Perform rack & stack activities including mounting servers, switches, and storage devices.
- Prepare, stage, set up, and execute hardware startups and shutdowns.
- Handle cabling activities including patching, labeling, and managing fiber and copper cables.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and network-related issues.
- Replace faulty components such as HDDs/SSDs and perform system upgrades.
- Conduct post-installation checks ensuring proper grounding, labeling, and cabling.
- Decommission hardware and support refresh activities like OS rebuilds and memory upgrades.
- Manage inventory, shipping/receiving, and asset tracking.
- Escort and supervise third-party vendors ensuring compliance with security protocols.
- Follow incident management and escalation procedures.
- Maintain documentation including SOPs, KB articles, and process updates.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and participate in safety briefings.
- Complete assigned tasks within defined SLAs and KPIs.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
What you need:
- 2–5 years of experience as a Data Center Technician or similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of servers, storage, and networking hardware.
- Hands-on experience with cabling, hardware installation, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
- Physical ability to lift equipment, work on ladders, and operate in data center environments.
Required Skills:
- Data center operations and hardware support
- Rack & stack and cabling management (fiber and copper)
- Network support, monitoring, and incident management
- Troubleshooting and diagnostics of servers and network devices
- Familiarity with tools such as crash carts, cable testers, and label makers
- Windows OS experience
Desired Skills:
• CompTIA A+, Server+, or equivalent certifications
• CCENT / CCNA certification
• MCP / MCSE certification
• Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
• Familiarity with HPE, Dell, Cisco, Aruba hardware
• Understanding of ITIL processes
