Unify is proud to be exclusively representing an expanding digital transformation consultancy, who are looking to engage the services of an experienced SQL Database Administrator, on an Outside IR35 basis.
We're looking for a DBA with strong PostGresql DB experience, and good knowledge of infrastructure and VM's.
A general understanding of Mongo DB and Sybase DB would be a bonus (not essential).
Operating System Knowledge
You should have a good working understanding of server operating systems that host and support database services, including but not limited to:
Windows Server 2022
Windows Server 2025
CentOS 7
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10
Experience should include navigating the operating system, reviewing services, checking logs, investigating performance issues, supporting permissions and access, and working with infrastructure or platform teams where required.
Typical Activities
The role is expected to include the following activities:
Database maintenance and health checks
Should have the ability to optimise performance as well as write and understand complex queries
Monitoring database availability, performance and alerts
Monitoring disk usage, storage growth and filesystem capacity
Capacity management and forecasting for database and server resources
Troubleshooting database, service, connectivity and operating system issues
Investigating failed jobs, alerts, locks, blocking, slow queries and operational issues
Supporting database migrations and upgrades
Applying database and operating system patches
Supporting service and server restarts
Supporting backup, restore and recovery activities
Managing database users, roles, permissions and access requests
Supporting access reviews and least-privilege access controls
Reviewing logs across database and operating system layers
Working with infrastructure, application and support teams to resolve incidents
Supporting planned change activity through appropriate change control processes
Producing and maintaining operational documentation, runbooks and support notes
BAU Support Responsibilities
You should be comfortable carrying out regular BAU support tasks, including:
Checking database and server health
Reviewing monitoring dashboards and responding to alerts
Tracking disk, CPU, memory and storage utilisation
Identifying capacity risks before they become service-impacting
Investigating operating system-level issues affecting database availability or performance
Checking database services, scheduled jobs and backups
Supporting user access, permissions and privilege changes
Validating that services have restarted correctly after patching or maintenance
Escalating infrastructure, network or application issues where required
Maintaining clear records of incidents, changes and actions taken
This engagement will be initially 3 months, with very likely extensions for 1-2 years.
