Turn data into action that shapes a greener future

At United Utilities, we’re redefining how the North West manages rainwater to protect the environment, enhance communities, and build long-term resilience. As our Insights Manager (Rainwater Management), you will lead the data and analytics capability that powers this transformation, turning complex datasets into actionable insights that influence strategy, innovation and delivery across our entire Rainwater Management programme.

This is a career-defining opportunity for a data professional who’s passionate about using digital tools, AI and analytics to make a real impact.

The Role:

By integrating advanced analytics, AI and digital tools, you’ll provide critical information to support decision-making, drive efficiency and ensure the benefits of the programme are successfully realised.

As our Data & Insight specialist, you’ll shape our data strategy, champion governance and quality, and provide compelling insight narratives to senior stakeholders.

What You’ll Do:
  • Develop and deliver a seamless, integrated and automated data service that provides high-quality support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the design and delivery of the Rainwater Management data strategy, ensuring alignment with wider programme priorities.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in Data & Insight, helping the team identify challenges and use data analytics and AI to improve outcomes.
  • Create, maintain and quality-assure key datasets, reports and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with central data teams to maintain secure, reliable data sources and ensure single-source-of-truth integrity.
  • Develop impactful data visualisation tools and digital solutions that streamline insight delivery.
  • Champion reusable tools, templates, self-service dashboards and automation to drive efficiency and consistency.
  • Promote strong data governance and ensure teams understand and use data effectively.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders using clear, compelling storytelling.
What We’re Looking For:

You’ll combine strong technical expertise with the ability to turn data into meaningful, actionable insight.

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) demonstrating deep skill in data manipulation and analytics.
  • Passion for Rainwater Management and for delivering green/blue solutions that benefit communities and the environment.
  • Understanding of Rainwater Management interventions (SuDS, NBS) and wider drainage, flood risk and water industry context.
  • Proficiency with key data tools such as Alteryx, Power BI and GIS.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience of data pipelines, databases, data architecture and governance.
  • Awareness of AI concepts and practical experience of applying AI in a corporate environment (desirable).
  • Strong leadership skills with resilience, drive and the ability to deliver high-quality insights.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear messages.
What We Offer:

We’re committed to helping you succeed and thrive.

  • 26 days annual leave, rising to 30 after 4 years, plus 8 bank holidays
  • Competitive pension with up to 14% employer contribution (21% combined)
  • Performance-related bonus up to 10.5%, plus recognition awards
