Platform Engineer - Go, Envoy/Kong & Kubernetes

Location: Glasgow
Working Model: 5 days per week onsite
Contract: Contract
Rate: £425 per day

We are looking for an experienced.*Platform Engineer.*to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and operating secure, resilient, high-volume infrastructure services.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong experience across Go, API gateways, Kubernetes, distributed systems and modern cloud-native infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and operate Envoy Proxy and/or Kong API Gateway infrastructure supporting production traffic.

  • Develop Go-based control-plane services, gRPC APIs and Kubernetes controllers.

  • Build and maintain secure gateway and authentication capabilities using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, PKCE and mTLS.

  • Develop and maintain OPA/Rego policies for gateway-layer authorisation.

  • Manage multi-cluster Kubernetes deployments using Helm, ArgoCD and GitOps.

  • Build and extend observability capabilities using OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace and Splunk.

  • Automate CDN/WAF configuration and security controls.

  • Work with PostgreSQL and Kafka-based platform services.

  • Support production incidents, improve resilience and contribute to runbooks and production readiness.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to onboard services and migrate traffic from Legacy infrastructure.

Essential Skills

  • Platform engineering experience.

  • Strong hands-on Go/Golang development experience.

  • Significant experience with Envoy Proxy and/or Kong API Gateway.

  • Experience with technologies such as xDS/ADS, ext_authz, HTTP/2, gRPC and WebSockets.

  • Strong production experience with Kubernetes, including Helm, HPA, PodDisruptionBudgets, NetworkPolicy, namespace isolation and ArgoCD/GitOps.

  • Experience building control-plane services, gRPC APIs and/or Kubernetes controllers using client-go.

  • Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, PKCE, mTLS and session management.

  • Hands-on experience with OPA and Rego policy authoring.

  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, including traces, metrics and logs.

  • Strong understanding of networking across L3-L7, distributed systems and resilient infrastructure design.

  • Experience building high-volume, low-latency, highly available production services.

Desirable Skills

  • Dynatrace and Splunk SIEM integration.

  • Akamai, Cloudflare or other CDN/WAF platforms.

  • WAF-as-code automation.

  • PostgreSQL, including HA, connection pooling and PITR.

  • Kafka, including MSK, Schema Registry and DLQ patterns.

  • DNS steering, GeoDNS, Akamai GTM or health-check routing.

  • TLS certificate life cycle management, cert-manager and HSM/KMS.

  • AWS experience, particularly EKS and MSK.

  • TypeScript/React experience.

  • Banking or financial services experience.
