Laboratory Support Coordinator

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Location: Tyneside, UK (covering Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Sunderland)

IR35: Inside IR35 (umbrella)

Role Overview

This role supports hospital pathology services across the North NHS region by providing technical, applications, and IT support to laboratory systems. It is ideal for experienced field engineers with strong electro-mechanical and diagnostic service backgrounds who are committed to maintaining high equipment uptime and ensuring reliable patient testing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline service and support for analytical laboratory systems across multiple NHS sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electro-mechanical and IT-related technical issues promptly.
  • Minimise downtime of critical laboratory equipment through effective maintenance and repair.
  • Deliver applications and software support to laboratory users.
  • Conduct technical and operational training for laboratory staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and hospital personnel to maintain high-quality service standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical field service or diagnostic equipment support.
  • Solid understanding of the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) or medical devices industry.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel across NHS sites within the Tyneside region.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience providing IT or applications support in a clinical or laboratory environment.
  • Prior exposure to diagnostic instrumentation or similar analytical platforms.
  • Background in delivering training to laboratory professionals.
  • Familiarity with NHS pathology workflows and environments.
