Pathology IT Systems Manager

Join our Pathology IT team at the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS) and help connect vital pathology systems across our service users, supporting safe and effective patient care.

NMCPS delivers pathology services across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire, operating laboratories at Royal Stoke, County, Leighton and Macclesfield Hospital sites. The service forms part of University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) and plays a critical role in the regional healthcare system.

As part of the Pathology IT team, you will maintain and support our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and its integrations, ensuring seamless communication between pathology systems and wider hospital IT infrastructure.

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • Support, maintain and develop Pathology IT solutions, including:
    • Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
    • Order Communications systems
    • Analyser interfaces and integrations
    • Multiple downstream and clinical systems
  • Work closely with pathology teams, clinical services, Trust IT teams and third-party suppliers
  • Lead or contribute to technical projects, upgrades and system improvements
  • Investigate and resolve complex software and integration issues
  • Share knowledge, support colleagues and help develop Pathology IT expertise across the service

You'll bring:

  • A degree in a computer-related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Demonstrable experience supporting:
    • Pathology LIMS systems
    • Order Communications systems
    • Hospital or healthcare IT environments
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, collaborative and team-focused approach
  • The ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Essential Qualifications

Essential
  • oEducated to degree level
  • oEducated to Degree in a computer related discipline
  • oProficient in the use of Microsoft office: Word, Excel, access and Power-point
Desirable
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development, either academic (e.g. MSc) or in an industry standard qualification (e.g. MSCD).

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential
  • Experience working with Pathology LIMS and analyser Integration experience
  • NHS experience
  • Knowledge of integration between hospital IT systems, covering HL7 and integration technologies
  • Experience of working with interface engines to process, monitor and support end to end messaging/data solutions
  • Knowledge of hospital information systems, particularly patient administration and clinical management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to convey complex ideas to technical and non-technical people
Desirable
  • Experience of using a multitude of programming languages such as SQL, Javascript, Jave, XML, JSON and file extract formats
  • Basic SQL Knowledge

  • Must have UK driving licence and ability to work across multiple location across Staffordshire and Cheshire
