Band 6 Medical Engineer
Job summary
Carries out fault diagnosis, repairs and preventative maintenance on complex medical equipment.
Performs electrical safety testing and functional verification to ensure devices are safe for clinical use.
Supports medical device lifecycle management.
Maintains accurate records using the Equipment Management System and complies with the Quality Management System.
Provides technical advice and support to clinical and nursing staff.
Investigates equipment failures and contributes to risk management, patient safety and incident investigations.
Works closely with clinical teams, manufacturers and suppliers.
Participate in on-call and emergency support for critical medical devices.
Supports service improvement initiatives, training activities and the implementation of new technologies.
Main duties of the job
Advanced fault-finding and repair of medical equipment.
Knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, microprocessors, pneumatics and mechanical systems.
Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
Strong communication skills with clinical and technical staff.
Understanding of medical device regulations, quality systems and patient safety requirements.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- *Professional electronics knowledge through BEng in electronics or equivalent.
- *Manufacturer approved technical training on a wide range of complex medical equipment.
- *Evidence of attendance of short courses and regular updating of training required
- *Continual Professional Development to obtain registration requirements with the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM).
Experience
- *Substantial experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.
- *A comprehensive understanding and competence in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment specific to the section.
- *Ability to record and analyse work data.
- *Relevant knowledge and competence in electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, anaesthetics, gas, infusion therapies computing and physiological measurement, as appropriate to the section.
- *Experience of working in Maternity, specifically neonatal units.
Additional Criteria
- *Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination required to work on a range of complex equipment
- *Hold UK Driving Licence
- *Must regularly participate in the departments "on call" service as required.
- *Ability to work and communicate with Clinical and Nursing staff.
- *Ability to work under pressure on occasions.
- *Able to communicate effectively.
- *Accepts supervision.

- *Capable of producing high standards of work.
- *Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a team.
- *Ability to travel to multiple sites.
