Job summary

The Senior Information Analyst role is responsible for developing, analysing, and presenting information that supports effective decision-making across the Trust. It involves creating and maintaining high-quality analytical reports, dashboards, and statistical models to monitor key performance indicators and ensure compliance with national reporting requirements.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include developing and validating reports, analysing complex data, and providing timely and accurate information to support Trust-wide and departmental objectives. It also includes contributing to the design and development of the Trust's data warehouse and reporting tools, ensuring data quality and promoting best practice in information use.

The post holder will support performance management processes, maintain up-to-date knowledge of NHS data standards, and ensure mandatory external returns and internal performance reports are delivered on time. Collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement of analytical methods are central to the role.

Job responsibilities

  • Development of reports and new analytical solutions to effective monitor key performance target

  • Analysis and interpretation of data and statistical models, and preparation of written reports and dashboards summarising results, across a range of patient activities and performance reporting

  • Monitoring and reporting key national returns. Ensure that mandatory external returns are submitted on time and are fully validated.

  • Contribution to the ongoing development of information systems enabling efficient and intelligent access to performance information. Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Data Warehouse reporting environment and other information reporting tools and techniques. Identifying area of weakness in availability and/or delivery of information and suggesting potential strategies for resolution.

  • Be responsible for providing information that is critical to the Trust achieving key performance standards. They will report Trust-wide and CMG specific data across a range of measures.

  • Extract and analyse data and develop reports that are accurate and timely. Working closely with customers, often at senior management level, to ensure that information is fit for purpose. This will involve a detailed and expert knowledge of the Trusts Data Warehouse and advanced analytical techniques.

  • Advise corporate and CMG management of key performance issues and provide feedback to ensure achievement of objectives. Alert potential breaches of standard to Senior Managers which may have serious implications to the Trust and suggest strategy for resolution.

  • Support CMG leads and Business Intelligence Specialists through tailoring reporting solutions and advice to help meet their business requirements.

  • Coach on the analysis and interpretation of the information and how to use it to guide decision making, advising on issues of data standards and quality as necessary.

  • Create and develop good working relationships with senior and middle managers in the Clinical Management Groups, Corporate Directorates and with external stakeholders.

  • Introduce new analytical techniques, coaching staff at all levels within the organisation in acquiring new skills and knowledge to enable effective use of information. This will involve the use of analytical tools, such as SPC.

  • Maintain an excellent all-round knowledge of up-to-date NHS Data Standards.

  • Support the development of a culture of performance management across the Trust and where appropriate, raise awareness of the service provided by the Information Team.

  • Monitor UHL performance position against targets on an on-going basis, giving feedback to senior managers to ensure achievement. As a lead specialist, attend management meetings for the purpose of supporting managers with the sourcing, interpretation, and analysis of information to aid the achievements of their targets.

  • Work with the Communications department and other departments to ensure that accurate and relevant information regarding the Trusts Performance is available for all relevant parties (FOIs, GPs, patients etc).

  • Make maximum use of the Intranet Report Library, SharePoint ,QlikSense or PowerBI as tools for publishing information internally (and potentially externally).

  • Develop, maintain, and make accessible documentation of procedures and processes carried out by the Information Team to support data accreditation and facilitate team working.

  • Ensure that the Trust Board and other corporate bodies within the organisation receive timely, accurate and relevant information and analysis on Trust performance in key performance indicators. Produce and develop the Trusts Performance Report and other reports for the Trust Board and Trust Executive.

  • Produce and submit regular information to fulfil Trust mandatory requirements, resolving any queries as necessary. This includes quarterly waiting list and other crucial performance monitoring returns to the Department of Health e.g. weekly Access return, weekly Sitrep and annual returns.

  • Produce regular information to meet the commissioning, performance and statutory monitoring requirements of CCGs, the Trust Development Authority and the Department of Health.

  • Assist with the production of both regular and ad-hoc information to support Clinical Governance and clinical audit and research within the trust.

  • Ensure robust processes for data collection and effective validation is in place.

  • Support senior finance and commissioning managers in developing and providing sophisticated information that has huge financial significance associated with it e.g. high cost and specialised services, Payment by Results, Reference costs etc.

  • Promote effective communication and team working within the Information Team. Cooperate in the provision of cover for individual job functions during staff absence.

  • Ensure the effective development of the Information Systems in the Information department by making a key contribution to the design of the Trusts Business Objects core reporting environment.

  • Investigate and develop the capability of other CMG specific information systems and data sources e.g. Maternity, ITU to produce further valuable performance information as required. Assess and utilise other tools that facilitate data analysis and benchmarking.

  • Ensure that the introduction of new analytical techniques is continuous and effective.

  • Self-planning and prioritising the complex competing demands of their work that enables the organisations tight deadlines to be met.

  • Coach senior and middle managers, influencing and developing their performance management skills and their understanding of the implications and impact of issues such as re-categorising activity or altering established processes.

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent experience (3 years experience in an information and data analysis environment preferably in the NHS).
Desirable
  • Information Management or Statistics qualification
  • Post graduate diploma in Health Informatics or in Management Studies
