The Bridge Studio is an and exciting new laboratory at UWE Bristol that aims to unite arts, humanities, design, engineering and computing, using advanced technologies within a unique, interdisciplinary 'collision space'. It will strengthen UWE's capability and expertise in physical and digital meta-production by providing a space for interdisciplinary, practice-based, design-led creative research. Leveraging academic and technical expertise, it will drive adoption of emerging technologies to stimulate novel forms of creative expression and production. Furthermore, the Bridge seeks break down technological barriers by providing digital skills support, training, and mentoring.
The Robotic Technology Specialist will be responsible for leading the technical development, management, and support of robotic and digital fabrication technologies within The Bridge's Immersive Studio. This role will support academic research, industry collaboration, and creative practice across the University, ensuring that The Bridge Studios remains at the forefront of innovation in immersive technologies.
About you
The role holder should have an in-depth knowledge of the use of robotic arms (KUKA, UR or ABB) and robotic programming ideally with experience of applying these techniques in novel applications spanning fine art, design, creative technologies, computing and engineering. Also required is experience of robotic control and programming languages such as Python and ideally also ROS. It is desirable that the role holder is competent in digital and physical design, fabrication and curation practices: including but not limited to: 2D/3D design and manufacture, including 3D printers and CNC machine tools, using common CAD/CAM software packages (e.g. Rhino, Solidworks, AutoCAD, others as appropriate). Knowledge of PLC's and electronics is also desirable. A commitment to continuous professional development will be required to keep up to date with new technologies and address any skill gaps.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post until October 2027, working 37 hours per week.
This post is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time.
