The Opportunity

This is a senior engineering leadership role within a fast-growing, tech-led consumer platform operating in a highly regulated, mission-driven space.

You will lead a small, high-calibre engineering team building core web products used by a rapidly expanding customer base. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will shape how products are built, how teams work, and how technology supports ambitious commercial growth.

If you enjoy balancing people leadership with technical depth, partnering closely with Product, and building scalable systems in a fast-moving environment, this role offers real influence and visibility.

Start date is flexible. Hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading a cross-functional team of frontend and backend engineers
  • Partnering closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, Data, and business stakeholders to deliver meaningful product outcomes
  • Acting as the technical counterpart to Product, assessing feasibility, trade-offs, and delivery approaches for new features
  • Turning product ideas into clear delivery plans and shipping them successfully
  • Remaining hands-on where it adds value, contributing to architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations
  • Coaching and developing engineers through regular feedback, clear expectations, and growth opportunities
  • Helping the team stay close to customer problems and real-world usage
  • Guiding technical decision-making to ensure quality, scalability, and maintainability
  • Collaborating with other engineering leaders to continuously improve ways of working, processes, and the tech stack

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 7 years of commercial experience as a software engineer or technical lead
  • Proven experience owning systems across the full product lifecycle, from early concept through to production and iteration
  • Experience working in cross-functional product teams with non-technical stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and modern engineering best practice
  • Hands-on experience with testing approaches including TDD and unit testing
  • Comfort using both business and engineering metrics to measure impact
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • A learning mindset and genuine interest in developing both people and products

Nice to Have, Not Essential

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with experimentation tools such as A/B testing or feature flags
  • Strong product instincts and an eye for user behaviour and design

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary between £90,000 and £120,000 depending on experience
  • Meaningful equity participation through a generous stock option plan
  • Private medical insurance
  • Hybrid working with flexibility built in
  • Weekly team lunch
  • Gym and wellness benefit
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Generous parental leave and flexible working policies
  • Cycle to work scheme and electric car scheme
  • Annual company retreat
  • A collaborative, ambitious team environment with high standards and low ego

This role suits an Engineering Manager who wants genuine ownership, technical influence, and the chance to shape both people and platform as a business scales.

If you’re looking to lead, build, and still stay close to the code, this is a strong next move.
