Back End Integration Engineer – Hybrid – Inside IR35

We are seeking a Back End Integration Engineer to support a major modernisation programme, delivering secure, scalable and reliable integrations across the organisation. This role focuses on improving how data and applications interact, enabling more efficient operations and supporting long-term business growth.

The Back End Integration Engineer will play a key role in modernising cloud-based applications and automation capabilities that underpin underwriting, operational processes and digital transformation. Working as part of the Digital Solutions team, you will design, build and maintain APIs, services and integration patterns that connect systems across the business.

Back End Integration Engineer’s Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement integrations between internal systems, cloud services and third-party vendor platforms.
  • Build, enhance and support APIs, messaging components, orchestration workflows and data access layers.
  • Develop high-quality, secure and maintainable code using approved tools and languages (such as C# and Python).
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and peer code reviews.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Analysts, Application Engineers, Data Engineers and Architects to translate business requirements into robust integration solutions.
  • Monitor integration performance, reliability and system dependencies.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, improve automation and enhance system observability.

Back End Integration Engineer’s Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience designing and building APIs, services and system integrations.
  • Strong understanding of integration patterns, including RESTful APIs, messaging, event-driven architectures and orchestration.
  • Experience with cloud integration services such as Azure API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid and Azure Functions.
  • Proficiency in back-end development (e.g. C#, Python) with a strong focus on secure coding practices.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Good understanding of data flows, data modelling and system interoperability.
  • Experience integrating with legacy systems and/or third-party vendor platforms.
