Hardware Engineer

Hardware Engineer - Nuclear Sector Location: Flexible - Office base in Stone, Staffordshire or Malton, Yorkshire (5 days on site)Type: Permanent Salary: Market-related

VIQU has partnered with a leading organisation specialising in advanced system integration within the nuclear sector to recruit a talented Hardware Engineer. Join a world-class team working on innovative projects in highly regulated environments across energy, water, renewables, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design hardware systems for control panels using proprietary components, focusing on PLCs, MCCs, Drives & Controls, and Switchgear.

  • Prepare, review, and verify calculations and design documentation.

  • Design electrical cabling and containment systems.

  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Travel occasionally for site surveys and customer support.

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulations.

  • Work confidently within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience designing electrical panels containing PLCs and LV distribution systems.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and/or Eplan P8 - Pro-Panel.

  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

  • Degree or HND in a relevant discipline, with project implementation experience.

  • Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).

  • Excellent communication skills for client engagement and mentoring.

  • Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation.

  • Familiarity with BS7671 IEE latest Edition Wiring Regulations.

  • Understanding of IEC BS EN 61439-1 standards.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in highly regulated industries (nuclear, utilities, infrastructure).

  • Knowledge of EMC practices.

  • Working towards or holding Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

  • MEng qualification.

  • Site experience (survey/installation).

  • Advanced English communication skills.
