Server Engineer
Active SC Clearance is required for this position.
We're working with a well-established organisation in the Financial Services sector to recruit an experienced Server Engineer to join its infrastructure team. This role offers the opportunity to support a large-scale Windows server estate while playing a key part in modernisation and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
You'll be responsible for managing both physical and virtual server environments, ensuring systems remain secure, resilient, and highly available. Alongside day-to-day operational support, you'll contribute to server lifecycle activities, automation, and ongoing infrastructure projects.
Location: Central London (Hybrid – 2–3 days per week onsite)
The RoleAs a Server Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Building, configuring, deploying, maintaining, and retiring Windows servers across physical and virtual environments.
- Supporting enterprise Windows Server infrastructure, ensuring stability, availability, and performance.
- Creating and maintaining PowerShell scripts to automate administration and streamline operational tasks.
- Managing core Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Administering VMware vSphere environments, with Hyper-V experience viewed as an advantage.
- Delivering server patching, operating system upgrades, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
- Diagnosing and resolving infrastructure issues, carrying out root cause analysis where appropriate.
- Assisting with infrastructure change projects, including server refreshes, migrations, and platform upgrades.
- Producing accurate technical documentation and following established ITIL processes.
- Participating in an on-call rota and supporting planned out-of-hours maintenance when required.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- Active SC Clearance (essential).
- Previous experience in a Server Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Windows Infrastructure role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration within enterprise environments.
- Practical experience building, deploying, maintaining, and decommissioning servers.
- Solid PowerShell scripting skills with a focus on automation.
- Hands-on VMware vSphere administration experience (Hyper-V knowledge is beneficial).
- Strong understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Experience with Windows patch management, operating system lifecycle management, and server security best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience supporting business-critical infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
