Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Contract: 6 Months Fixed Term Contract
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior SQL and Web Platform Engineer to join the IT Services team of a leading international professional services organisation based in Birmingham. In this critical role, you will support and maintain the organisation’s core database, web, SharePoint, and authentication platforms across both on-premises and cloud environments. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Core Services and Platforms, you will provide expert technical support, optimise infrastructure performance, lead deployments, and collaborate closely with business services and vendors to ensure resilient, high-quality IT services.
Key Responsibilities

Provide third-line support for SQL Server, SharePoint, Web application infrastructure, Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and Azure cloud services.

Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise server performance and availability, adhering to Microsoft best practices.

Manage Azure SharePoint cloud services, SQL estate, and web farms globally to ensure uptime, load balancing, and disaster recovery readiness.

Lead deployments, code releases, and platform upgrades following change control and service management standards.

Collaborate with IT application teams, business units, and vendors to deliver timely support and continuous improvements.

Act as a technical lead and mentor within the Core Services and Platforms team to promote knowledge sharing.

Maintain detailed system documentation, including Root Cause Analysis and knowledge base articles.

Participate in an on-call rota supporting critical infrastructure.

Contribute to strategy, resource planning, budgeting, and roadmaps for database, web, and supporting platform services.
Key Requirements -
Proven expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

Strong experience with Microsoft SharePoint architecture and administration.

Practical knowledge of Azure Cloud Services, including SharePoint Online management.

Familiarity with Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) technologies.

Solid understanding of web application infrastructure and deployment (e.g., IIS, web farms).

Experience managing hybrid IT environments (on-premise and cloud).

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Strong communication skills for liaising with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with IT service management frameworks, change control, and agile working practices.
Desirable Skills -
Experience with PowerShell or other automation tools for infrastructure management.

Familiarity with ITIL or similar service management methodologies.

Knowledge of capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

Experience in the legal or professional services sector is a plus.
