- Hands-on Short-Term Trading experience (Day-Ahead & Intraday)
- Strong Nordic power market knowledge
Candidates without experience across these three areas will not be considered.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager / IT Transformation Lead to deliver a new end-to-end systems solution supporting short-term physical power and gas trading, with a primary focus on the Nordic power markets.
This is a remote-first contract role (OUTSIDE IR35) with regular travel to Copenhagen once a month. You will lead the programme across all phases - from discovery and design through build, testing, go-live and hyper-care - working closely with Front Office, IT, Operations, Compliance, and the selected technology vendor.
This is a high-impact leadership position requiring deep domain expertise in short-term trading combined with strong delivery governance and technical oversight capability.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead full lifecycle delivery: initiation, discovery, design, build, testing, migration and go-live
- Own project plan, milestones, budget, risk and issue management
- Drive delivery to agreed timelines, cost and quality targets
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (Front Office, IT, Operations, Compliance) and vendor resources
- Manage multi-vendor delivery streams where applicable
Short-Term Trading & Solution Oversight
- Lead functional and technical design for short-term power & gas trading workflows
- Oversee system configuration across trading, forecasting, dispatch and settlement
- Ensure alignment with Nordic market processes and balance responsibility frameworks
- Drive data migration, cutover planning and P&L shift validation
- Support VPP and flexibility trading platform integration (HEMS/EMS where applicable)
Stakeholder & Governance Management
- Act as primary interface between business leadership, IT and vendor
- Chair steering committees and provide structured executive reporting
- Manage regulatory engagement where required (e.g. Nordic TSOs and settlement bodies)
- Ensure regulatory compliance, audit logging and segregation of duties controls
- Oversee UAT planning, defect management and acceptance criteria
Essential experience
Project Management (Critical)
- 8–10+ years’ experience delivering complex IT or trading platform programmes
- Proven track record implementing ETRM or specialised short-term trading systems
- Experience managing cross-functional and multi-vendor environments
- Strong governance, risk and budget management capability
- Structured PM methodology expertise
Short-Term Trading Experience (Critical)
- Extensive hands-on experience in Day-Ahead and Intraday power trading
- Strong understanding of short-term gas trading
- Deep knowledge of full STT lifecycle:
- Order management
- Portfolio management
- Forecasting (production & consumption)
- Real-time dispatch
- Balance responsibility
- Settlement
Nordic Market Expertise (Critical)
- Strong understanding of Nordic power market structure and infrastructure
- Familiarity with market coupling, TSOs and settlement processes
- Knowledge of reporting and regulatory obligations within the Nordic region
- Experience working within Nordic trading environments
Technical & Systems Knowledge
- Experience leading ETRM or short-term trading system implementations
- Strong understanding of system architecture, integrations and APIs
- Data migration and reconciliation expertise
- VPP and flexibility trading systems experience advantageous
- HEMS/EMS integration knowledge beneficial
